Napoleon Bonaparte' the 1st
Napoleon I (1769-1821) Emperor of the French , who
consolidated and institutionalized many reforms of the
French Revolution (1789-1799)
One of the greatest military commanders of all times ,
he conquered the larger part of Europe and did much to
modernize nations he ruled. Napoleon was born in
Corsica, and became known as Napoleon Bonaparte'.
At the age of 16 , Napoleon joined the artillery.
In 1796 , he married Josephine De Beauharnais , the widow of
an aristocrat guilliotined in the revolution.
Npoleon Bonaparte' was proclaimed emperor in 1804.

Russia had been eager to
increase its influance in the
Balkans , and to wrest from
the Turks control of the
straits between the Black

Sea.

occupied by the
Ottoman Empire , to justify intervention , he claimed
to be protecting the Orthodox population in Empire.
