Hero of the Month: Scamander

Let's face it: No one is cooler than the mighty river of Troy. Whether he's doing a modelling gig in The Aeneid (the survivors of the Fall make a replica of him to make themselves feel better) or kicking Achilles' butt whilst in the form of a giant wave, nobody beats him!

Life in Brief: Oh, who cares about the rest of his life? The highlight by far is in Book XXI, when he gets angry because Achilles keeps dumping his trash (dead people) in his waters, clogging his waterways.

Scamander: Achilles, if yo excel all in strengf, so does yo also in wickedness, fo de gods be eber wif yo ta protect you: if, den, de son a Saturn habe bouchsafed it ta yo ta destroy all de Trojans, at any rate dribe dem out a me stream, an does yo grim work on lan. Me fair waters be now filled wif corpses, nor can I fin any channel by which I may pour myself inta de sea fo I be choked wif dead, an yet yo go on mercilessly slayin. I be in despair, derefo, O cappain a yo host, trouble me no furder.

Achilles: I neber cease dealin out deaf among de Trojans, till I habe pent dem up in deir city, an made trial a Hector face ta face, dat I may learn whether he be ta banquish me, or I him, yo.

Scamander: I pity you, Foo'. I'm gonna throw you helluva far.

And he DOES! Go read it right now!
