Weekly Update #4 - Oct. 11th, 2002

Well, District's weekend is here.  Finally the postseason has arrived.  And not a moment too soon for some, while way to soon for others.

In d1, Davidson really is coming together.  They put all five of their runners between 18:22 and 18:36 at their conference meet.  That deep of a front pack is really going to be tough to beat.  Turpin has the best shot with Rauen and Randall probably ahead of htat pack, Price in it and 4/5 a bit behind.  However, it is important to remember that the only time HD beat Turpin was when Turpin's #4 failed to finish the race.  With that problem behind her and a good finish at Great American, Turpin is still very tough.
Those two seem to have separated themselves from the field right now.  In the next tier would come SJA, Coffman,  Strongsville, St. Ursula, and Scioto.  The first four really seem to be getting stronger.  Scioto seems to be struggling right now.  Jackson lost it's conference meet to North Canton.  Colerain lost to Lakota East.  Bowling Green rolled, but of course their is no other team in NW Ohio.  But, right now it looks like a big battle for third with HD and Turpin well out front.
Individually, it's the same 4 it's been all season:  Sikes, Rauen, King, and Bizzarri.  Throw in Randall and that's 5 girls in the hunt for the title right now.  Early edge has to go to Sikes as she is the defending Champion, but King is always around, Rauen is running on another level this year, Bizzarri is a frosh who has beaten Rauen, Randall, and King at some point.  And Randall is just now coming on.

In d2 Beaumont is really starting to come on.  With Infeld running solid and leading the way and frosh Sutherland starting to contribute, they will be right there again.  Taylor absolutely romped throug their conference meet and Thompson can cancel out Infeld.  MicNic seems to be the only other team with a true shot.
Individually it looks as if Infeld and Thompson are the top two, but I would not count out Sara Wiseman.  Infeld has the experience, but Thompson can match Infeld's speed.  Should be fun.

In d3 the story continues to be how will Minster respond to getting beat by Fort Loramie two weeks ago?  It was a narrow victory, but the important part was how it came.  It came by a frosh from FL stepping up and beating Gruber.  And FL's 2-5 simply beating Minster's.  Once again, Minster has the experience on their side, but FL was there last year and proved they could run with Minster, now they proved they can beat them too.
Individually Olding is on a roll.  She had been consistently under 18 minutes and is undefeated. Barnesville's Morgan poses the biggest threat, but she has lost her training partner for what could be the rest of the year.  Also, never count out Reinhart, she's a gamer.

I'd like to get up the times from the top teams that qualify from each District.  What I have I will post and this way we can all have a better view of what it will take at Regionals.

Good luck to all this weekend!
