The very first Squaresoft game i ever played and now Im hocked on there games! This is the first Final Fantasy to come out for the SNES. I don't wanna spoil the story for those who havn't played this game yet so ill just give a few hints and tips about the game.
When playing you don't really require "building up", just don't run from fights unless your really gonna lose it. But the place where you should build up is the lunar core. there are lot's of monsters that give you a lot of exp. points. And plus some monsters like the Behemoth give you special iteams if your lucky.
Edge has his sneak (steal) so use it... On some enemies you will be surprised what you can steal... So experiment and steal.
You can gain other summoned monsters, by gaining magic items... Monsters such as Imp and Bomb(Ive gained these) will sometimes leave a spell.

'You can will a glass helm off evil masks. You can win a medusa sword off black lizards. You can win a dragon whip off blue dragons. You can win a Artimis Bow off Magnians (did I spell that right? I don't think so.) And the weapon thats exestince is a mystrey the ''Arch Sword'' which is seen on the logo. I'am not sure but I think it can be won off ethier the minds or breaths. But the chances of wining it is like 1 out of 300.'
So far I have only won the Dragon Whip.
Personally I found this game fun but not to challenging, but it's a great start to the "Square world". I didn't even find too much difference with the Japanese "hard" version expect for more items.
