Mr. & Mrs. Swen / Jeannette Bergman
.
It's been three years since Jeannette Bergman's kennel was *closed down*,
and she was charged with MANY counts of animal abuse and neglect in Washington
State, while she was still on probation from abuse charges in Kootenai
County, Idaho. Seattle Purebred Rescue reeled from the impact of trying
to foster, care for and eventually place when the court released to them
over 300 dogs coming from this kennel...many pregnant, all undernourished,
many with severe health problems. 16 dogs were found dead when the raid
was made on the kennel, several more had to be put to sleep within the
next few days. She has recently begun contacting breeders again to purchase
dogs to start breeding once again...this while on probation from TWO STATES
now for abuse/neglect charges, AND while being told SPECIFICALLY that she
is not allowed to breed again! I can't believe she is actually giving her
own name to do this!
She prefers LARGE dogs, and of the *purebred-but-not-AKC-registerable*
(private registries/UKC registered) type, because of course, AKC has cancelled
all registration priveleges for 10 yrs. In the past she has *bred* Golden
Retreivers, Rottweilers, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Mastiffs (that she advertised
locally in Idaho as "Hooch dogs, from the movie Turner & Hooch"...guess
she never realized Hooch was a Dogue de Bordeaux and NOT a Mastiff!) etc...
All over the Couer d'Alene area are Golden Retreiver owners and Rottie
owners who spent a small fortune for this *Puppy with 54 champions in pedigree*
and then spent THOUSANDS more on surgery & vet bills for dysplasia,
etc... This is her way of *supporting her family*. This woman owns at least
five parcels of land in various northern Idaho counties, in Washington
and in Montana...all within an hour or two drive of each other. In Idaho
when she was first arrested, the conditions were deplorable! She had emus,
rheas, ostriches, ponies, horses, miniature horses and donkeys, pigs, cattle,
sheep, dogs of MANY different breeds, toy Bengal leopard cats, llamas,
etc. The smell was so strong that as you were driving by on that highway,
you could catch a whiff of it.
The Washington case has received much publicity over the internet
as well as on television (and the archive files at courttv.com
are still there if you're unfamiliar with this case), so there is a very
slim chance of her being able to purchase any new *breeding stock* to start
up once again. Hopefully the breeders who were contacted will notify the
officials out there in WA that she is attempting to start yet again...
Don't let this happen again, spread the word... |
