Nature Calls, Nature Wins
Ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip.
Tottering on unsteady legs
I emerge from the tent.
Ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip.
I peer around at the dispersed riot
Of yard and patio lights
In this gaggle of RVs and popup trailers.
But even with the lights,
Helping me make my way across the lots
I can feel that
The darkness enfolds the scene.
The partiers are snoring
The fireworks debris
Is pushed about
On the beach
By waves that respectfully crest in muffled gurgles
Of a goggle of bubbles
That collapse
Upon a myriad grains of sand.
We humans
With our intoxication
And our light
And our explosions
Try so hard to resist
But every night
The universe wins.
We lay vanquished
Again
In the pith of the night,
In the core of the onion,
Conquered
By the
Earth, moon, and sun.
