About: | The Birthday Massacre is a gothic electronic metal synth rock band based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The band was formed in 2000 in London, Ontario, and it was originally known as Imagica. Their music is multi-layered, and can be best described by each individual part. The electronic part of their music paints what can be described as a "surreal soundscape". It's relaxing, dream-like, mysterious, and fairytale-like. In stark contrast, the metal part of their music is fast-paced and loud, like a thunder & wind storm piercing its way through the soundscape. The vocal by Chibi is angelic when she is telling a story, goes into a whisper when the lyrics is meant for the listener only, and turns into a evil growl when combined with dark and sinister lyrics. The final concoction produces songs that use the cutness of the surreal soundscape to lure listeners into its lair, where fans can finally discover the true face of The Birthday Massacre. Each song is by itself a dark fairytale, with a sinister plot.
