Dan is an amateur entomological researcher and
scientific illustrator. His research centers on the life histories and biologies of local
Nebraska species in the staphylind subfamilies Staphylininae and Paederinae. His
scientific illustration includes work for the entomological Division of the Nebraska State
Museum. His illustration techniques include carbon-dust, pebble and coquille board,
watercolor, mixed media, acrylic, and line illustrations. He has also worked in the past
as a webmaster for several internet sites.
Mr. Schmidt went to Schuyler Central High School and graduated in 1974. After attending
the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for three semesters he came back to the family farm
where he raised hogs for 30 years. He recently continued his education at Central
Community College-Columbus, and Wayne State College. Dan graduated in the spring of 2007
with a Bachelors Degree in Education with an endorsement in Natural Science. He is
currently teaching science at Leigh High School at Leigh, NE.

Schmidt, Daniel. Schmidt,
of the USA, was born in 1956. He began studying the group because he was intrigued by the
predatory habits of the larvae, and is particularly drawn to the immature stages and
natural history of the Neartic Staphylininae and Paederinae. He has published articles on
the immature stages of species of Erichsonius, Neobisnius, and Platydracus.
He is currently rearing as many genera of staphylinine and paederines as possible, and
would like to see more features of the immature stages used in phylogenetic studies. He is
a hog farmer whose avocation is staphylinid beetles. |

Scarab Workers:
World Directory This directory is provided as a
service to the entomological community. Its purpose is to facilitate communication between
scarab researchers, to identify scarab-related resources, and to assist in providing
information about scarabaeoid beetles. We are continuously updating the directory as new
listings and new information become available. We are also attempting to provide
information about early workers who provided the foundations for today's scarab taxonomy
and classification. |
