Bartleby, Angel Casted Out
Bartleby is a character played by Ben Affleck in the Kevin Smith film, Dogma. I created this site in spring of 1998 when I was at turning point in my life. I was familiar with the story of the movie Dogma back then having the inside info via Kevin Smith's website. Bartleby is angel cast out of heaven for questioning God. He, along with fellow discarded angel Loki, attempt to return to heaven by entering a new church, thus restoring their souls. Unbeknownst to the two angels, this will erase all of God's work. Restoring ones soul by entering a new church is a part of the Catholic Dogma, and by restoring their souls the angels could reenter heaven thus revealing there is a loophole to return to heaven. This would prove God was not perfect and upon proving this all of God's work would immediately be erased. This page is entitled Bartleby's Lair because life is full of questions. The answers and solutions to these questions can sometimes bring disastrous results. As I myself explore the puzzle of life, this site will reflect my many sides and emotions I project. Many people ask me where I got my "NeoBartleby" handle on yahoo and the like. Well, it's not a combo of the two characters Neo from The Matrix and Bartleby. In this sense Neo is used in the Latin mode, meaning "new". Kind of like "NeoNazi" but not as bad as that. In this sense I am the new incarnation of Bartleby, bringing questions to this world, possibly playing a major role in it.
