Nurdle Wave  This sculpture was at the California and the World '02 Conference in Santa Barbara from Oct. 27-30, 2002. It  accompanied speaker Capt. Charles Moore as he and other researchers and scientist discussed their findings of the Ocean.
It joined a Fairy Tale poem I wrote with illustrations about a Nurdle King- at the Huntington Beach Art Center, in a group show Jan 18 - Feb 15, 2003.    O  Click here to see it.
Taylor Simpkins presented her project about pre-production plastic (nurdles) in Washington, DC, Oct.18-22, for the Young Scientist Challenge finals in the grades 5-8 catagory. One piece of mine accompanied her.
Nurdles are small pieces of plastic used in the manufactoring of products, but somehow end up in the Ocean. I've collected, then glued them onto a foam sculpture of a wave.

The Iron Cross was awarded for bravery, or for 5 shoot-downs of planes, in Germany during war. It was a medal pinned on soldiers (1st class) or hung with a ring (2nd class). Returning GI's wore them as bikers, or on Southern Cal. beaches where it became known as a Surfers Cross, especially after Murph the Surf cartoon wore it.( Also known as Heraldic Cross, or seen sewn on the Pope's clothing).
Remind you of the Biker/Beatnik/Race car/ Beach movies of the 60's?
