Rings: Just like in all the other Sonic games, every 100 rings you collect, you get an extra life. Also, like in other Sonic games, if you lose rings by getting hit such as by an enemy, you can only collect up to 20 of those rings you lost before they disappear.
Boarding Tricks: When you are boarding down the street in City Escape, and if you have SA2: Battle, then the 2 player boarding course as well, you may or may not have found out that when you go over a ramp, you can do a trick in the air by pressing A while on the ramp. There are up to three different tricks you can do, and which one is performed all depends on your speed before you go over the ramp. If you are going too slow when you go over the ramp, even if you press A, you won't be able to perform a trick. Doing these tricks gain you extra points.
Running Ramps: Just like when you are boarding in the game, there are ramps when you run as well, except since you are only on foot, there's only one trick you can do worth 200 points, but the faster you go the higher you will go, and thus possibly getting more items.
HINT ABOUT RAMPS: When going over a ramp, running or boarding, you will get the best result if you are going at top speed and you press the A button right when you hit the tip of the ramp going up. This can take some time to master, but it can get you a lot of points.
Digging: When you are Knuckles or Rouge and you are climbing a wall or on the ground, you can dig into that wall or ground. Doing this sometimes results in you finding items.
NOTE: Some walls such as metal walls or floors cannot be dug into.
Hit the enemy before they hit you, an important tip.
Items
Invincibility: Looks like a colorful sparkling glow around your character. Enables the user to not get hurt for a limited time. Falling on an enemy can even damage them with this! They are found in bubbles.
High Speed Shoes: In the bubble it is found in, it looks like red running shoes. Enables the user to run faster for a limited time.
Shield: Shields are found in bubbles. When the user has one one, it appears as a green bubble surrounding the character. After you get hit once, the shield fades away but you do not gain any damage.
Magnetic Shield: These are also found in bubbles. These shields have the same power as regular ones except that they are purple and also can attract rings!
Extra Life: In their bubbles, they appear as the head of the character you are playing as and add one more life to your life stock at the bottom left side of the player's screen.
Bombs: Yet another thing that appears in bubbles. Once this bubble is broken, a circular wave is sent out away from you and obliterates all enemies on the screen.
Rings: In this game you collect gold rings, not coins. each gold ring is equal to 10 points of your score. Rings also serve as your health and money for the Chao world. Make sure you don't lose these! Rings can also appear as bubbles of 5, 10, or 20 rings.
Goal Rings: A giant ring that you need to jump into to finish a level.
Emblems: Something you get once you beat a particular mission of a level for the first time. They appear as Sonic's head with a ribbon.
Shattered Emerald: A shattered piece of the Master Emerald.
Master Emerald: An emerald that has the power to stop the force of all the Chaos Emeralds.
The Chaos Emeralds: There are seven chaos emerald in the world. They have the power to let the user warp time and space by gripping an emerald and saying, "Chaos Control!".
Health: These are only found in levels accessible by Tails and Dr. Eggman. This allows you to restore health on the health meter. These are found in red balloons.
Wooden Boxes: Wooden boxes can be destroyed without need of powerups. Sometimes they can contain items.
Iron Boxes: Iron containers must be broken by ue of a powerup that makes your character stronger. Sometimes they can contain items.
Steel Boxes: You cannot break these. They are blackish in color.
Chao Boxes: There are three per level. The first one you find contains a chao key, the second has four common animals, and the last a rare animal.
Black Cages: Destroy by using a rocket.
Chao Key: Found in the first chao box you find in a level. Enables you to transport to Chao World once you complete a level.
