FBLA

About Us

The Woodland Park chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America serves all WPHS students, provided they have paid the activity fee and dues (discussed later on this page).  As of the 2004-2005 school year, the club meets once a month, usually on a Wednesday.  Meetings are held at 6 PM in room 16.

Although it's not our only activity, FBLA is well-known for the competitions we participate every year.  A given member may sign up for any of a number of activities, or even more than one.  Everyone who is signed up for an event and properly registered and paid for, will compete at regionals.  Those individuals placing second or better there get the right to move on to state competition.  If someone gets first at state, they may proceed to nationals, a highly prestigious event with big scholarships and major kudos up for grabs.  You will be removed form school for a period of one to two days (or more for nationals) to compete, and at every level other than regionals, an overnight stay (or two, or more) is provided.

New members are (almost) always welcome, provided that the office is still taking activity forms.  FBLA is a Class B activity, and the first B activity (as of SY 2004-2005) is $30, with the second at $25, and the third and on at $20 each.  You also need to pay $15 dues to FBLA itself.  There is a deadline by which dues and registration are due, which is announced near the start of the school year.  It's always best to turn forms in early to lock in your registration.  Members who are not properly registered and paid for are not eligible for competitions.

While joining FBLA is open to all students, in order to run for office, you must be in one of the following classes: Accounting, Programming, Web Page Design, PC Apps, Desktop Publishing, Business/Consumer Math, Sports Marketing, Word Publishing, Marketing, Personal Business, or any of their levels or derivatives.

Our Advisors for 2004-2005, as well as for 2005-2006, are Brian Gustafson and Jeff Gatlin.  (Click their names to e-mail them at their school addresses.)
