Da hast du 'rumgedruckst und wolltest nicht gehen
(You have dodged that and did not want to go)

Ich fragte dich, mein roter Bruder hat doch sicher Hunger
(I asked you, my red brother is surely hungry)

Weisse Wolke kann sein Zoegern nicht verstehen
(White Cloud cannot understand his hesitation)


Und du sagtest, meine Schwester Weisse Wolke soll es wissen
(And you said, my sister White Cloud shall know it)

Es ist geheim, der grosse Bueffel hat naemlich Die Sonntagshose zerrissen
(It is secret, the great buffalo has torn namely the sunday trousers/pants)


Das ist lange her - heute gibt es keine Indianer mehr
(That was long ago - today there are no more Indians)


Und spaeter in der Deutscharbeit da hattest du die Eins
(And later in the German test you had the "1"-"A" there)

Und ich war neidisch und hab' nicht verstanden, wieso du weinst
(And I was envious and have not understood, why you weep/cry)

Und dein Gesicht versteckst
(And your face conceals)

Obwohl deine Note die beste von allen ist
(Although your grade is the best of all)

Und ich fragte dich, warum du so komisch bist
(And I asked you, why you are so strange)


Und du sagtest, wenn's das gaebe, verdiente ich 'ne Sieben
(And you said, if/when it would be that, I earned/deserved a "7")

Es ist geheim, der grosse Bueffel hat naemlich abgeschrieben
(It is secret, the great buffalo has namely written off)


Das ist lange her - heute gibt es keine Indianer mehr

Und dann wolltest du weg
(And then you wanted to go away)

Wolltest einfach abhau'n mitten in der Nacht
(Wanted simply to clear off in the middle of the night)

Und hast mir dein Radio vermacht
(And have left me your radio)

Doch nach zwei Tagen warst du wieder da, muede und bleich
(But after two days you were there again, tired and pale)

Es hatte naemlich leider nicht bis Kanada gereicht
(It had namely unfortunately not extended until Canada)


Und du sagtest:  Als mich die Bullen erwischten
(And you said:  Before the bulls/cops caught me)

War ich immerhin schon
(I was already at any rate)

Kurz vor Frankreich an der Autobahnausfahrt von Heilbronn
(Short before France at the expressway exit of Heilbronn)

(That was long ago - today there are no more Indians)


Und in diesem Sommer erklaertest du mir
(And in this summer you explained to me)

Was zwischen Jungs und Maedchen passiert
(What happens between boys and girls)

Und dann passierte es mit uns
(And then it happened with us)

Und ich dachte, die Welt vibriert
(And I thought, the world vibrates)


Und ein halbes Jahr spaeter
(And a half year later)

War unser Leben wie 'ne lange Explosion
(Our life was like a long explosion)

Aus Musik und Farben und Reisen
(From music and colors and trips)

Und wir flogen in weiten Kreisen davon
(And we flew in wide circles from there)


Irgendwann schenkte ich Meine ganzen Indianerkleider einfach her
(Sometime I simply gave away my complete Indian clothes)

Als jemand sagte:  Ich hab' gehoert

Der grosse Bueffel geht zur Bundeswehr
(The great buffalo goes to the German federal defense army)

In der Zeitung heute Morgen habe ich dein Bild gesehen
(In the newspaper this morning I have seen your picture)

Und ich schlug sie zu, ich wollte den Text nicht lesen
(And I slammed it shut, I did not want to read the words)

Wollt' nich wissen, bist du jetzt vielleicht beruehmt oder tot
(Did not want to know, if you are now perhaps famous or dead)

Oder beides, das heisst: Eins davon gewesen
(Or both, that is called: "1"-"A"/one formerly from there)


Es ist Nachmittag, die Sonne geht, die Schatten werden lang
(It is afternoon, the sun goes down, the shadow/shade becomes long)

Und draussen knallen Kinder mit dem Colt
(And outside children fire with the Colt)

Und sie legen eine Oma um fuer eine Handvoll Gold
(And they do in/kill a grandma for a handful of gold)

Denn heute gibt es keine Indianer mehr
(Because today there are no more Indians)
