3. Tell me a bit more about Alexei's marriage to Galina? Is it true that she was pregnant before they were married?
Alexei and Galina were married on June 2, 2000 - and their child was born on September 2, while Alexei was in training in Adelaide before the Olympics. This means that Galina was six months pregnant when they were married.
Some people feel that he only married her because he felt morally responsible - but they were already in a long-term relationship, and before they were married, Alexei said the following about her -
"I love my wife although we are not officially married and I love her son because he is now my son also. I love absolutely everything about her. With her I find peace"
He was referring to her as "my wife" before they were even married, and had already taken responsibility for his stepson, referring to him as "my son also". At the same time, he had many friends discouraging the relationship because of her age and history - yet he still married her.
