PJ’s Return Letter

The following is the letter PJ put on his homepage explaining why he is returning to erotic fiction writing. This letter originally contained the url of PJ’s new archive, but I won’t post it here. If you are interested for it, e-mail him.

Two things motivated me to create a new Tales webpage. One, I received a beautiful Crysania sketch from one of my readers who also works as a professional artist, when I saw it I just had to share it with you. Two, I sent a new Wheel of Time fanfic to Grey Archive several days ago and it hasn't been posted yet. I'm so used to publishing my stories as soon as I finish them that waiting on Jason is kinda frustrating. I like to do things myself when I can.

As usual, I take the lessons from my last web-publishing experience and try not to make the same mistakes. You long-time readers know that this isn't a new occurrence, I appreciate those of you who stick with me during these continuing online evolutions of mine.

The first lesson is: Leave the Grey Archive alone. With six thousand plus readers, GA is just too big an audience, it's only a matter of time before I offend someone and then I have to withdraw again. Grey Archive is still a good place to store my older fanfics, especially since I tossed out all of my own backup files, but I won't submit new stories there now that I put Tales back up. I have submitted two new stories to GA lately, both under the writing name of Black Lotus. The two stories recently added to GA, plus the unpublished WoT piece, are all available at Tales for your reading pleasure, let me know what you think of them if you have any thoughts to share.

The second lesson: Keep the readership small. I won't add this new webpage to the Adult Fanfiction Webring or any other webring or search engine, and I won't have it linked from Grey Archive. If you're reading this and know about my Homepage you probably read my short note at Golden Archive, this proves that you are one of my loyal readers, I trust you and know you won't be offended by anything I write. My new Tales webpage is for you, I want to reward your loyalty with a small page filled with the content you desire, plus hot pictures that I think you might like. The people who complained at Grey Archive never understood that I wrote exactly what my readers wanted. My readers requested gory Resident Evil fanfics, after the first Lara in Peril, several readers requested more snuff stories, one reader even sent me a long list of monsters to ravish and devour Lara. I write to relax and relieve stress, it's a hobby, something I enjoy doing in my spare time. While I like to write whatever pops into my brain, I enjoyed listening to your requests too, I had fun bringing your dreams to life as much as my own. Tales is your site too, forget the rubes who don't understand or who get scared, Tales is a place for all of us to forget the outside world and indulge our fantasies, with a small group of readers, we don't have to be self-conscious, we can explore the sexuality of Caitlin, Sydney, Laurana, and our other favorite fictional characters freely and without guilt.

The third lesson: No snuff or extremely violent rape. The Lara in Peril tales were perhaps excessive, the Resident Evil stories too. I guess I never really thought about it much since readers wrote requesting more and shared their own suggestions for snuff and gore scenarios. When I tried a golden shower scene once in Realms Phantasy, it got flamed very quickly, so I knew I'd crossed the line. I never really did get flamed on the RE or Lara in Peril material until I started sharing it at Grey Archive. I dismissed the early protesters as the usual idiots that sometimes wander into a high-traffic website, but the girl who wrote about the Lara in Peril tales got my attention and finally raised some concern in me. Non-consentual scenes are still fine because when I write them I imply that the sex is somewhat consentual, even if it is on a subconscious, reflexive level. I will cease to write Lara in Peril, Resident Evil, or any hard-core rape material, to be honest I've been writing that kind of material for so long I've pretty much exhausted that particular sub-genre. However, if I ever receive a very well-described scenario, I won't dismiss the request out of hand.

The guidelines I've just laid out will help me to stay within acceptable bounds, and will help you when you send in requests. To conclude my little essay, I'll share some of my lingering story ideas. Since you are my long-time readers, you know I could very well drop an idea or write something completely different from what I'm about to share, but I'm fairly certain that I'll complete the following tales before the end of 2001. Nothing is ever written in stone, if I get some really interesting requests I've been known to switch projects in a heartbeat:

Diablo II: The Lord of Destruction

Diablo is probably the most time-intensive series I've written, I've spent more time in one writing session with Diablo than I have for any other fan fiction project. Diablo: Zara's Quest, received a very impressive amount of feedback, Zara was even listed in the character poll of Grey Archive and did quite well.

My Diablo II adaption was probably one of my greatest failures. I spent an entire week of vacation writing that piece and received exactly one letter of feedback about it. I know why it failed, I didn't have enough sex in it. The failure was mine, I got caught up in the story and ignored the erotic facets of the tale.

Hopefully I'll do a better job with Lord of Destruction. I plan to bring Zara back, to maintain series continuity, and I'll probably introduce the Assassin since that's the character I'm playing right now and she has alot of potential. Non-consentual scenes are almost unavoidable, but I'll try to turn them more into seductions than outright rape.

Bondage Princess Caitlin

One of my favorite series. Feedback has been very sparse, Bernie sent me feedback letters every time I added a new installment, but no one else ever did. Jason from Grey Archive finally told me he liked the series when I had my page removed, and even the young woman who initiated this latest purge admitted that she liked BPC. Caitlin Fairchild is one of my favorite comicbook babes. BPC works as an erotic series because it's the only one where the heroine likes to be bound and spanked around a little. I'd like to write at least one more before the year's up, let me know if you enjoy the future installments.

Legend of the Five Rings

I will publish Five Rings fanfic someday. There's such a wealth of material I have alot to study before I plunge into a new Five Rings tale. A personal goal of mine is to write at least one short story for Five Rings before Xmas.

Sydney Savage

Like BPC, Bernie was the only one to give me feedback for this mostly Ecchi Sanctuary-archived series. Like I love Caitlin, I love Sydney, she's so sexy and beautiful and exciting to write about. Playing with a first-person idea for the next story, a partner for Syd during her Covert Ops days before Danger Girl.

Dragonlance

Easily the most requested setting for my fan fiction. Based on feedback, most of you love to see Laurana in bondage. I've exhausted that theme, although I did have enough inspiration for at least one more Laurana lashing scene in The Dragon Emperor. Future DL tales will be difficult. The Lost Souls series and the Fifth Age in general are dead-ends for me, I don't have alot to work with, although the upcoming Bertrem's Guide to the Fifth Age might help me out. I have an idea for a Palin/Usha tale that I've bounced around for several months, and I'm debating the wisdom of continuing the Return of the Dark Queen premise. I also have an idea for an early Lord Soth story, before the Cataclysm, when Soth served as an enforcer for the Kingpriest. Return of the Dark Queen evolved from a reader's request, even though it ended up being something far different than he requested. Input will be very helpful if you want to read more of my DL fanfic, ideas are always welcome, although not always used.

Those are the major projects I'm considering at the moment. Warhammer Fantasy is also under consideration, I have the new Dark Elves army book, and the origin of Nagash has always been a future project of mine. A major change to Tales is that it's going to be more relaxed than my earlier webpages, I'm not going to worry about adding new content every week. Since I got rid of all my earlier stories, Tales is a clean slate for me, I'll add stories when the whim strikes me or I have a premise I just have to get into print. First and foremost, my Homepage and Tales are hobbies, I work on them to have fun and relax, and I hope you visit my two sites to have fun too! I'm in the middle of Baldur's Gate, Diablo II, Fallout, and Final Fantasy IX, plus I have books to read, so I don't want to devote all my free time to writing or web-publishing. I like to do a variety of things so I don't get burned out on any particular activity.

I think I'm going to stop writing now before I really start to ramble. I took the time to write all this because I wanted you to understand why I brought Tales back and how I plan to run it from now on. I'm always learning from my online experiences, hopefully my writing and web-publishing will be better because of it. Thank you for your patience and your loyalty. A writer is nothing without an audience, and those of you who have been with me for years have truly been my friends. The Grey Archive experiment failed a second time, that chapter is closed. Now Tales will be my home, I hope you help me make it a good one, and I'll do my best to provide the kind of content you want and enjoy.

Thank you for your support!

PJ

P.S. A big thank you to cybersyncd for drawing and sharing his incredible Crysania sketch with me. I wouldn't have brought back Tales if he hadn't given me that very erotic picture. Beautiful art like that deserves to be shared with those who appreciate that kind of beauty, let's hope cybersyncd and other talented artists continue to create and share such sensual wonders with us!
