The intent of this class is to encourage broader equine participation of horsemen in the Northeastern Michigan area.

1. You must become a Northeastern Michigan Association of Horse Clubs (NEMAHC) member, pay membership fees, and apply for "Novice Status" prior to registering for any novice classes.

2. Novice classes are not restricted by the age of the exhibitor and are only restricted by showing experience.  To be eligible for novice status in each of the novice classes, you must meet the following criteria:
     a.  Have not accepted money or gifts for showing for someone other than yourself.
     b.  May not give riding lessons.
     c.  May not train horses for someone other that yourself.
     d.  May not judge horse shows.
     e. May not have earned 200 or more NEMAHC points in any regular age division class       during the past five years, of which you are applying for novice status (showmanship, stockseat equitation, or english equitation).

3. If you show "NOVICE" classes you MAY NOT SHOW in any "age" division of showmanship, horsemanship, or english equitation.  You may , however, show in any open halter or performance classes if you so desire that you are eligible for.

4.  A NOVICE CARD HOLDER may be eligible from year to year depending on the prior year's success, i.e. if you were to accumulate 200 NEMAHC points or more in any one of the three NOVICE classes, you would no longer be eligible for that class the following year, but could be eligible for the other two.

5.  If a NOVICE CARD HOLDER changes categories and enters a non-novice class in showmanship, horsemanship or english equitation, you must forfeit all points earned in that Novice class for that year.

6.  To enter NOVICE CLASSES, you MUST show your "NOVICE CARD" to the show secretary when you enter the NOVICE CLASSES.  These cards will be issued by NEMAHC.

7.  Exhibitors must apply each show year for NOVICE status for each of the three novice classes, therefore, your card expires at the end of each show year.

8.  If at any time after application for novice status is made, it is brought to the NEMAHC officers' and delegates' attention that the novice member does not meet any of the criteria listed in Section 2, the novice member will be notified and will be given the opportunity to negate or explain the alleged violation of criteria.  The NEMAHC officers and delegates will then decide if the alleged violation is legitimate.  If the violation of criteria is found to be legitimate, all past novice points will be lost and the exhibitor will not be eligible to enter the novice class or classes for the remainder of the show season and will not be eligible to re-apply for a period of five (5) years.

9.  All general NEMAHC rules apply to "NOVICE" exhibitors.

10.  Protests must be made in writing and filed with an officer or delegate before the end of the show in question, accompanied by a fee of $25.00, which will be returned if the protest is sustained by the Delegates.  All protests will be considered and all interested parties will be notified.  Protests against judge's decisions will not be allowed.

11.  Stallions are not eligible for NOVICE classes.
