Chateau Petrus $225.00 95

A truly classic Petrus and comparable to the '88, '86 and '82. Showy and impressive with excellent use of new oak. It delivers loads of toasty coconut and chocolate flavors balanced by plum and blackberry notes. Incredible concentration for the vintage. Supple, long finish. Try after 2000.

Wonderfully rich and concentrated, with milk chocolate, berry and floral aromas, loads of fruit flavors and soft, round tannins. Full-bodied and has good length. A great wine for the vintage, but then, what do you expect from Petrus? Better from 1999 on, but inviting now. (3200 cases produced)

A rich and opulent vintage of Pomerol's most acclaimed wine. It tastes subdued at first, but then the flavors warm up and turn deep and nicely mature. The texture is thick and chewy without being tough and the finish is long.

Lots of everything here. Loads of smoke, berry, cherry and chocolate aromas and flavors. Full body, soft tannins and fresh finish. Really impressive; could move up to classic quality next year.

Very firm and focused, chewy in texture. Flavors seem disharmonious, chunky rather than elegant. Solid, with herbal, minty overtones to the black cherry notes, but not elevated. Some thought this just needed more time!

A very good Petrus, but not as good as the glorious '93. Loads of coconut, vanilla and berry aromas. Offers lovely sweet fruit and medium tannins.
