1995 Margaux |
Chateau Margaux | N/A | 95-99 |
Bordeaux | 05/15/96 |
|
Perhaps the wine of the vintage: very close indeed. Layers of wonderful raspberry, cherry and fruit. Full-bodied and compact yet elegant, with lots of finesse. The fine tannins go on and on. |

Mature. smooth and finely textured, showing a
beautiful bottle bouquet, ample fruity, meaty
flavors and firm but integrated tannins. Elegant
compared to some of the vintage's blockbusters,
and a joy to drink now through
2005. |

1994 Margaux |
Chateau Margaux | $85.00 | 90-94 |
Bordeaux | 05/15/96 |
|
A beautifully aromatic Margaux that has an abundance of cherry, vanilla and cedar aromas and flavors. Medium to full body and extremely well-integrated tannins. Long and fresh on the finish. |

1994 Margaux |
Chateau Margaux | $135.00 | 90 |
Bordeaux | 01/31/97 |

Not a big Margaux, this is all in refinement.
Pretty aromas of berries, raspberries and toasted
oak and warm flavors that build on your palate.
Medium-bodied, with fine, well-integrated tannins
and a caressing finish. Better in
1999. |

1993 Margaux |
Chateau Margaux | $72.00 | 90 |
Bordeaux | 01/31/96 |
|
Chateau Margaux is back after a weak '92. Big
for the vintage, featuring loads of new oak to
provide a smoky, toasty taste. Attractive currant,
black cherry and rose petal character.
Medium-bodied, exotic and ripe. Somewhat hard now,
and you wish for a bit more concentration, but
time should turn it into a lovely wine. Try in
1999. |

1990 Margaux |
Chateau Margaux | $300.00 | 90 |
Bordeaux | 09/15/96 |
|
Slightly dumb now. Ripe, almost raisiny aromas and flavors that develop a minty, menthol accent. Full-bodied and rich with loads of tannins. Needs time. Better after 2005. |
||||||
1985 Margaux |
Chateau Margaux | $136.00 | 90 |
Bordeaux | 09/15/96 |
|
Still closed and not giving much. Full-bodied and very chunky with impressive black truffle and currant aromas and flavors and velvety, chewy tannins. It's still slightly one-dimensional; better after 2000. |

1945 Margaux |
Chateau Margaux | $1200.00 | 90 |
Bordeaux | 11/30/95 |
|
Still has firm tannins, but you can feel the
delicacy and grace as it opens up and shows cedar,
cigar box and chocolate-scented berry flavors. The
tannins are scarcely more obtrusive here than with
the other first growths.

1993 Bordeaux |
Chateau Margaux | $42.00 | 89 |
Bordeaux | 04/30/97 |
|
Oak aging adds roundness and flavors of vanilla
and honey to this lush white, but fruit flavors of
apple, pear and melon are still fresh, and there's
enough acidity to keep it in balance. Though
restrained, it's a wine of substance and
style. |

1990 Margaux |
CHATEAU MARGAUX | $300.00 | 86 |
Bordeaux | 09/15/96 |
|
A tight, hard-edged and unyielding young wine. Some cedar and currant flavors attempt a coup on the finish, but they're tightly wrapped in tannin.

1985 Margaux |
CHATEAU MARGAUX | $136.00 | 82 |
Bordeaux | 09/15/96 |
|
Has that curious cedary-mineral accent often found in Bordeaux. Meager ripe fruit flavors struggle to hold their own against the dry tannins. May be a bad bottle. |

1994 Margaux |
Pavillon Rouge De Chateau Margaux | N/A | 80-84 |
Bordeaux | 06/30/95 |
|
Beautiful berry, cherry and raspberry aromas and flavors. Medium bodied with silky tannins and a smoky finish. A bit short. |
||||||
1994 Margaux |
Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux | $35.00 | 80 |
Bordeaux | 01/31/97 |
|
Bright berry and cherry aromas with a citrus note beneath. Light- to medium-bodied, with light tannins and a short finish. Not much to it. Drink now. |

Pavillon Blanc Du Chateau Margaux | N/A | 78 |
Bordeaux | 03/31/96 |
|
Full-bodied and a bit on the heavy side. Plenty of honey and fruit flavors, but turns bitter and overripe on the finish.
