Activist resources

Starting out in activism? Nervous? Then the resources listed here (books, websites and sample campaign materials) might be helpful. Good luck, and let me know how your campaign goes! This section will hopefully expand over time: email me if you know of any good activist materials that i've missed!

  • Solidarida home
  • Activist handbooks

  • Pressure and Citizen Action by Des Wilson: bit dated (ie pre-internet and some of the legal information is out-of-date, as is the author's own activist status) but still pretty good guides to organising campaigns, writing press releases and leaflets and getting a group together.
  • Campaign against Cruelty: an activist's handbook by Alex Bourke and Ronny Worsey, both committed activists who have worked on too many campaigns to list. Specifically about animal rights campaigning, but loads of useful info that can be transplanted to other campaigns too. Online version available here.
  • Sample campaign materials

I used these in the course of organising campaigns. Most of the material here refers to the campaign against animal circuses, because that is what I have worked on the most. They are supplied as a guide to structure, phrasing etc: just adapt the content to your campaign!
