The Business

Over the years I have acquired an unconventional approach to a full-time piano service business.
My motivation is to preserve the fine tuning from the uneven shift in pitch caused by a humidity swing for as long as possible.

A piano tuned in October for example, will experience humidity related shifts by the beginning of December
in many homes here in Wisconsin. (6-8 weeks of fine-tuning enjoyment.)

By contrast, a piano tuned in December will hold its fine tune through May typically(4-5 months of fine tuning enjoyment.)
The winter service season for me is Dec., Jan., Feb., and it is the primary season for service to customers in their homes.

The end of June and most of July marks the summer season for fine tuning that holds to about Thanksgiving.

Action maintenance and extensive action reconditioning are scheduled off from peak time on months such as August and September.
Pianos require regulation to maintain their touch & tone.
Assessment is done while tuning for scheduling more time at the next suggested service date.

The month of April is good for dehumidifier installation since the unit will usually start cycling in May.
There are some months left over that get the event tunings and service in schools, churches, etc.

The rest of the empty spaces are filled with a part-time occupation that keeps the shop tools sharp!
Currently, I am building 3 hammer dulcimers.
I have built and sold 5 instruments over the years.

My wife and I returned last summer to the Fox Cities after living 23 years in Waupaca.
We have been looking to find a home with a 1st floor shop to enjoy an occasional rebuilding project during those off season months.

Hope to see you soon in your home!
