the willow lake pirates girls baskeball team went to the state championship. the willow lake girls basketball team has gone to the state tournament 9 times since 1988. i remember going to a game in 1997, the championship game to be exact, against tulare. they were beaten very closely. it was quite sad. anyway, willow lake has made it to the championship game 7 times but never taken home the title. i think they should have it just because they've been there that many times, no other team can say that. after an amazing win over colman-egan high school, the willow lake pirates played a hell of a basketball game against mt. vernon, the team that had defeated them the year before in the exact same game. i got to sit in the fan section with my cousin jessica and former team member jill williams. she's cool. during halftime jennifer was awarded the prestigious "spirit of su" award. my cousin leah was also awarded this honor in 2001. it was very exciting and i am very proud of jennifer. she worked hard to pursue her love of basketball. |

this was the final scoreboard.i wouldn't cry over them losing, because hamlin won the state A tournament that same night. and we all know that the pirates defeated them. they defeated two A school teams actually. mt. vernon only had to win 1 victory over an A school. so in your face to the phillies. |
