Over many
years the family researchers and historians have been finding and
collecting information relating to descendants and related members of the
Nellis families from the Mohawk Valley. Various records were being put
together trying to define the descendants of each line. The
information being collected was becoming magnitudinous. In 1990, there was
a move started to document the holdings into a single history, and to
publish it for all to see and use. The large task of collecting, checking,
collating, and validating the information was begun. This included
considerable additional research to ensure the accuracy of the information
being considered for the History. This took a while longer than
initially anticipated, and the material was finally brought to a ready for
publishing in 1997. The amount of information was also much greater
than estimated, and it was finally agreed to publish in 2 volumes.
Volume 1 came in at just over 1000 pages and
covers the initial history and the first known eight generations of the
Nellis family. Volume 2 may also be about 1000 pages and is planned
to cover the ninth generation to the current generation. Both are
hardcover books published by the Nellis Family Association and Herkimer
County Historical Society and professionally printed by Genealogy
Publishing Service.
The initial funds
collected were only sufficient for the Volume 1, and with the proceeds of
the sale of Volume 1 it would soon be possible to publish Volume 2.
Publishing of Volume 2 is planned for sometime in 2001.
Both Volumes of the book are available for
purchase using the attached order form. The purchase of the book now
at $75 (postage extra) will entitle the buyer to Volume 1 now as well as
Volume 2 at no additional funds when it is published. Postage will be an
additional $6.00.
