Nihilum was formed in 2001 by Malignus, who plays all instruments. Rotten has also been a  member, playing session drums. They released two demos in 2001, 'Nothingness' and 'Pain  and Misery for Humanity'. In 2003 they released the demo 'The Door to Emptiness', and in  2005 the demo 'Mors Ultima Ratio'.
