And so it began…
The inevitable battle against Xelloss that had been foreseen long, long ago…

Gourry and Amelia hadn’t been a match at all. He had taken out the blonde swordsman with a stab through the stomach, which had really been no problem. Amelia was even simpler. He had attacked her helpless soul from the astral plane and watched contently as her fire for "love and justice" slowly diminished.
Zelgadis was another story. The chimera had put up a good fight, for he had accidentally slipped a little of his mazoku power out, damaging Xelloss quite a bit. However, this only intimidated the mazoku and caused him to drain Zelgadis from the astral plane, leaving no evidence of the chimera.
And so it was just Lina and Xelloss, two of L-sama’s most beloved children. Lina was already suffering from major damage to her left arm and was hurriedly trying to heal it while Xelloss watched her in amusement, loving all the pain he received from her.
Xelloss smirked and walked over to Lina. He lifted her chin and said, "You know you could have just become a mazoku and spared yourself all this pain. Baka madoushi, did you really expect to win?"
Lina looked at him with equal force in her eyes and said, "I will win."
‘Lord of dreams that terrify…’
"A little cocky aren’t we?" he asked, smiling at her in amusement. He backed away from her and began to form a sphere of blackness in his hand.
‘Sword of cold and darkness, free yourself from the heavens’ bonds!’
Xelloss lifted his finger and wagged it side to side, saying, "Tsk tsk Lina-san. Too bad I’m not any stupid mazoku you’ve faced before." He stepped forward and held the black orb before her threateningly.
Lina cursed under her breath and continued calling on the power of the Lord of Nightmares.
‘Become one with my power, one with my body, and let us walk the path of destruction together!’
Xelloss smiled coldly at her and whispered harshly, "Shi ne."
Lina closed her eyes, silently whispered a prayer to Ceiphied, and waited for the pain…
The pain that did not come.
Xelloss backed away from her, shock and confusion written across his violet eyes. The energy orb dissipated into the air as he fell back, staring at her in disbelief.
"Now or never," Lina told herself.
‘Power that can smash even the gods!’
"Why couldn’t I kill her?" Xelloss asked himself, not paying attention to Lina’s attack any longer.
"RAGUNA BUREEDO!" Lina shouted, taking the dark blade between her hands.
Xelloss looked at her, a light feeling arising from within himself. He closed his eyes again and murmured, "I see…so that’s why…"
Lina brought the blade down, cutting through him from his left shoulder to the right side of his waist. He shouted in pain and helplessly fell forwards into Lina. She found herself wrapping her arms around him absent-mindedly, feeling the power of the Lord of Nightmares once again leaving her body.
Lina held him gently, her last living companion, and asked through tears, "Why did you stop?"
He smiled weakly and replied, "You should already know the answer to that, my dearest Lina-chan."
She collapsed to the ground, placing his head in her lap and allowing the tears to flow from her eyes.
He opened his eyes to look at her one last time, smiled, then closed them.

"Sore wa himitsu desu, zutto."
