Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon or anything else that someone may say that I'm using in this story. This fic has a little bit of Daiken and Takari, as well as some other yaoi, yuri, and straight pairings, but nothing takes place, I just mention pairings. Yes, it takes place in the future, 13 years from the time the 02 Digidestined began. I know some people don't like it when both the Japanese and English names are used, but my feeling on that is, I use the English names when the time seems right. (I just can't see Izzy being called Izzy when he's nearing 30) Yes, I will switch between the two when I feel like it, but don't worry, it doesn't happen much.
And yes, this story stems from one that I read on the Kensuke Files site. If you would like to visit it, the address is www.kenichijouji.com
And now, the fic!
Darkness. Ken could feel the darkness around him. It was still as unpleasant as it had been the day he and Kari had come across the Dark Ocean again. He continued falling deeper and deeper into the black unknown, when suddenly, a green aura surrounded him. His D-3. It could save him from whatever evil lurked in these shadows.
Ken... You were the most promising of the ones who wanted to rule the digital world...
"Who... are you?" The words silently passed through his lips, yet to him, they seemed to echo through the nothingness.
Those horrible Digidestined should have been no match for you...yet you fell to them... How pathetic...
Ken screamed in pain as the darkness moved closer to him, causing the green aura to lose its radiance. He cursed as the aura declined, pleading that the darkness leave him be. But it refused. With a final push, the darkness engulfed him, changing him from the gray-clad youth to the Emperor.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Daddy?" Ken jumped as he felt the little dark blue haired girl tap his shoulder. "Are you all right?"
"Yes Saiora. Daddy can handle anything" It was only a dream.
"But you screamed." Saiora simply stated as she jumped on to her father's bed so she could lean against him.
"Come on. You're just a little genius, Saiora. Now, you don't need to worry about me. You need to worry about getting to sleep. You've got a busy day tomorrow, with going to play with Kojirou and then getting to see mommy and Aunt Sora."
Ken just couldn't say no to Saiora's cute puppy-dog face. He knew that he shouldn't give in to her longing blue eyes and pouting lips, but he couldn't say no to her.
"Fine." Ken said in a pseudo-defeated tone, "you can sleep in here. Just don't steal all the blankets this time." Saiora smiled as she crawled over her father's legs to the other side of the bed, where she quickly found the other pillow and buried herself under a pile of blankets.
Ken lay back down, but he knew that he wouldn't be able to fall back asleep. The dreams hadn't come for ten years. And the only one who had been able to stop them was long gone.
He had lost his everything because of the girl. Yes, now she was his world, but Ken couldn't help but think of the time when he was actually happy with himself, and with life. But three years ago that had changed.
Davis had proposed to him at the Izumi's New Year's party. All he could remember from that night was the proposal, and that Tai and Matt were able to get him drunk.
Nine months later he found out what had happened that night. Yolei called him to let him know that she had a child, and claimed it to be his. Ken did not want to believe her, but through the miracles of paternity tests, he learned that Saiora was truly an Ichijouji.
Davis did not object to Saiora's birth and the fact that Ken cheated on him at first, but after the courts were informed that Yolei was practicing lesbian, they decided that Ken, who had still not legally become a life partner to Davis, would be a more suitable parent. When Saiora was no more than two months old, Davis left Ken in a drunken rage, saying that he would never come back again. He kept that promise.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How typical. Yolei was fifteen minutes late to take Saiora from him, and he needed to catch a flight to Los Angeles to meet with some other computer company executives to discuss the future of Ichizumi Net, a company he and Koushiro had created the year before.
"Lena," Ken called to Saiora's nanny while he typed at the computer in his bedroom, "did Yolei or Sora call?"
"No, Mr. Ichijouji. No one has called today at all." As she finished speaking, the telephone rang. Ken looked at the caller ID. Izumi. Koushiro was probably trying to check and see if he left yet, and would want to give Ken last minute tips on how to act in America. On the third ring, Ken picked up the phone.
"Ichijouji."
"Oh hi Ken!" Ken sighed as he heard the whine of the all-too-familiar woman's voice on the other line. "I don't know if Koushiro told you, but Mizumi fashions is going to be introducing the Wormmon line next Tuesday. I was wondering if you would like to come."
"Well, Mimi, I'm going to be at meetings in America all next week. There is no way I could be there on Tuesday."
"Oh." He could hear the disappointment in Mimi's voice. "It won't be the same without you. Can you get the meetings changed to other dates? This is really important to me." Ken could see right through Mimi's little plan.
"Are you trying to get Davis and I to both come so we can kiss and make up?" Ken couldn't help but laugh. "I refuse to allow that thing anywhere near me. Nice try though."
Ken slammed the phone on to the charger unit. Some crest of Kindness. How dare Mimi try to bring Davis and him together again! Before he had any time to begin loathing in his hatred, the doorbell rang. Ken mechanically walked over to it and opened the door to see Sora standing outside, instead of Yolei.
"I hope that it's all right that I came to pick Saiora up." Sora said with a smile. "Yolei had to work late tonight at the store, so she couldn't come, but I'll have her call your cell phone when she comes home."
"Don't bother." The only person Ken hated more than Mimi was the woman his daughter had been named after. "Saiora," He called across the townhouse apartment to Lena and his daughter, "come here and give me a hug." The little girl trotted over to him, and Ken scooped her in his arms, clutching her tightly to himself. He smiled as his eyes met hers. "I'll bring you something from America, ok?"
Saiora locked her arms around his neck as she hugged him back. "I want a puppy."
Ken laughed as he set her down on the ground. "I don't think I can take a puppy on an airplane. You have fun at your mom's, ok?"
"Come Saiora." Sora said as she took the girl's hand.
"I love you Daddy!"
Ken smiled at his daughter's words, but the anger of Mimi's plan and Sora taking Saiora from him swelled.
"Lena?" He said as he closed the door. "You can go home for the day. I'll lock up before I leave." The black haired nanny smiled as she walked past him.
"Thank you Mr. Ichijouji. Have a good trip."
Ken smiled at her. "You know I will."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Three hours had passed since everyone left the Ichijouji apartment, and Ken was still sitting at his computer, but Wormmon was now by his side. Veemon had begged Ken to allow him to come along too, but Ken refused.
"Ken, what are you doing?"
"I'm working on a new program. It will make everything right again."
"What's wrong Ken? How will the program make things right?"
"My Everything is gone. The program will bring it back."
"What is your Everything?"
"ENOUGH!" Wormmon cowered in fear- the reflex that protected him from Ken's cruelty had never really gone away from him. "Go eat or something. Just quit disturbing me."
Wormmon silently crawled out of Ken's bedroom, leaving Ken alone with the program. When the Digidestined originally defeated him, Ken wanted to reset the Digital World, but Davis and the others had convinced him not to. Now he would make his words truth. All of the Digidestined needed to be taught a lesson, and he was the one to do it.
Nothing he tried seemed to work. If he deleted one part of the digital world, the tests showed that a new piece would materialize. If only there was a back button...
It was worth a try. Ken clicked once on the back button in the test digiport. The evil smile that he always wore as the Emperor crossed his lips. A single control spire appeared on the screen. Tai told them that he and Greymon were able to destroy the last one a year ago.
Now Ken had to decide how many years to go back. Thirteen would give him access to all the digidestined, but the outcome would probably be the same as before. Now, if he would go back seventeen years, the original digidestined would be just starting their quest of cleaning up the digital world. That seemed like the better idea.
"DigiPort, Open!" Ken said as he held is black D-3 to the computer screen. With seventeen clicks of the back button, Ken was certain to have reset the digital world.
"Wormmon, it's time to go back."
The little green worm crawled back to the room, where Ken immediately picked him up. Before entering the digital world, Ken grabbed Davis's old square goggles and shoved them in his coat pocket.
In a blinding flash of light, the room was empty.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Good morning Koushiro!" Mimi practically sang to her husband as she leaned over him. "I've made breakfast for you and Kojirou."
"Thanks Mimi." The still groggy Koushiro said as he yawned. "I'll be there as soon as I check my email."
Still in his pajamas, Koushiro took the laptop off of the table near his bed and turned it on. Junk, junk, porn, Ken, junk, horoscope, chain mail from Cody, Gennai, junk, junk...
"Gennai!?!" Koushiro stated as he opened the mail. "Mimi, get in here!"
"What is it?" The strawberry blonde asked as she came to a stop behind his chair.
"It's from Gennai. He says, 'The world is changing. You need to' and then it ends. I wonder what's wrong in the digital world. I'm going to send Tentomon an email and ask him." Koushiro had been typing as he was talking. "OK. I'll see what he says."
Not more than five seconds later, Koushiro received a message saying that Tentomon was an unknown user in the system. Immediately, Koushiro pulled a digiport up on the screen.
"Control Spires!" He and Mimi both said at the same time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Digimon Emperor sat in his chambers inside Spiral Mountain waiting for Devimon to arrive. The dark digimon requested a meeting with the Emperor, and the Emperor would not give him anything less than a proper business meeting.
"Master, I would like to introduce you to Devimon." Stingmon said from the restraints of his Dark Spiral.
"Leave us, Stingmon." The large bug-like digimon left the dark chambers, allowing Devimon and the Emperor to be alone.
"Welcome Devimon. As you have heard, I am the Digimon Emperor." He stated from his seat that faced the door. As always, the Emperor's capes were draped at his sides, and his legs were crossed, giving him a more intimidating aura. "I want to make a deal with you. I come from the future, where you have been defeated twice- once by Angemon, and once by my hand. I will give you the information and resources you need to defeat the Digidestined."
Devimon's red eyes tried to burn their way into the Emperor's soul, but the purple goggles seemed to prevent the human from feeling any fear. "And what do you ask in return?"
The Emperor stood up and walked over to one of the monitors in the room. He pointed at the control spires that were already in place throughout the digital world.
"You would give me the satisfaction of knowing the Digidestined are gone, permanately."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The entire group of Digidestined had gathered at Odiba Elementary computer lab, where the first digiport that Davis, Yolei, and Cody entered through opened.
"As you know, we are here to see why control spires are being constructed in the digital world." Koushiro looked around the room to see ten shining faces staring at him, and hanging on every word. "We should all be able to enter from this location. Davis, would you do the honors?"
"Sure." The spiky haired man held his blue D-3 to the computer screen. "DigiPort, Open!"
Nothing happened.
"Yolei, Cody, TK, and Kari should try now." Tai said from his seat on Matt's lap.
The others tried, but nothing happened. The same was true for the remaining digidestined. The mood in the room had definitely dropped from being hopeful to one of impending doom, when Joe jumped out of his chair.
"Guys, I think we've got to go to summer camp."
"Summer camp?" Davis said sarcastically. "It's barely even spring outside!"
"I think Joe has a point." Matt stated as he touched Tai so the brunette would stand up, then stood up himself. "What if the person who did this went back to the beginning?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The eleven adults crammed into Matt's van, and arrived at the camp. The original seven ran to the spot where they were taken to the digital world for the first time.
"Look!" Mimi squealed. "It's snowing!"
TK ran over to Kari, and kissed her.
"I'll have to go alone on this one my love, but when I get back, Hikari Kamiya, let's get married. I've put this off too long." TK pulled an engagement ring from his pocket, and placed it on Kari's left hand.
"Oh Takeru, I love you..." Kari pulled TK close as she cried tears of joy on his shoulder.
"TK!" Matt screamed as he was being lifted from the ground to the digital world. "We've got to go!"
"I love you TK!" Kari screamed as her new fiance ran towards the dimensional rift, and was taken away.
Kari fell to her knees crying.
"Hope and Light are one in the same."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The seven digidestined were terrified as they stared at each other. Not only had the person who reset the digital world taken the land back seventeen years; the chosen children were children once more.
"So where are the digimon?" Tai asked the others, breaking the awkward silence. The children searched for a little while, then from what seemed like a place they had already searched, the seven digimon ran to their humans.
"Patamon!" TK laughed as he picked the flying pig out of the air and spun around.
"TK!" He squealed in delight. Once TK stopped spinning, Patamon flew out of the boy's hands. "How did you know my name?"
"Well," Matt decided he should answer for TK, just like he seemed to do when they were originally this age, "we're actually from the future. We know you because we came to the digital world before."
"Then why don't I remember meeting Joe?" Gomamon asked.
"That's because we're from seventeen years in the future." Joe answered his digimon.
"Well, what do we do now?" Sora asked both Tai and Koushiro.
"I'm going to send an email to Yolei when I find a place to plug my laptop into." Koushiro pointed towards the west. "If I remember correctly, the beach should be in that direction."
The group walked quickly behind Tai and Koushiro towards the location of the beach.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hey! There's an email from Koushiro!" Yolei called to the others from her seat in the Odaiba computer lab. Kari, Davis, and Cody walked up to the computer so they could see what the group had to say about the situation. "OK, here's what he says. 'There are control spires all over, but to all of our digimon's knowledge, only Devimon is in charge. Kari and Davis need to go to her parent's apartment and wait for Gatomon to arrive, so they can come help. I'm trying to figure out how the world was reset. ~Izzy. P.S.- we're all seventeen years younger."
"Well, that beats a face lift any day." Yolei said, trying to lighten the mood. It didn't work though. Kari was to the point of crying nonstop, and Davis had the most determined look in his eyes that Yolei had ever seen.
"Come on Kari. Let's do what Tai and the others want." Davis smiled as he took her hand. "You'll get to see TA again if you come with me."
Kari smiled at Davis's joke. "It's TK. And yeah, we should hurry."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Devimon despised the control spires that had been rapidly appearing throughout the digital world as a result of the Digimon Emperor. He was certain that the Black Gears would be overly sufficient in defeating the children, but the human kept telling him that Black Gears alone would mean certain destruction by TK and Angemon. The control spires did create an atmosphere that a black gear could not.
"I need to speak to you Emperor." Devimon said as he walked into the darkened chambers.
"As I need to speak to you." The Emperor did not turn around to face Devimon. "Why have you allowed the children to live so long? The sooner you destroy them, the better off you'll be."
"I have not located the children yet." Devimon took a few more steps so he was closer to the Emperor. "Why do you keep putting control spires up? There are more than enough to suppress the power to digivolve."
"Are there?" The Emperor spun the chair around to face Devimon. "If you lose, it will be your fault and not mine. I am helping you to defeat these brats. Don't you ever forget that." He turned back toward the monitors. "The children are approaching Spiral Mountain. Two more will be joining them once they reach the base of the mountain. You may do what you please with the others, but Daisuke Motomiya, also called Davis, is mine."
Devimon bowed before he turned to leave. "Yes, my master."
The Digimon Emperor smiled as Stingmon emerged from the shadows.
"Thank you for placing that Dark Gyre on Devimon. Why can't you be this good when you're Wormmon?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I just wanted to say, congratulations Kari." Davis whispered as the two stood on the balcony of the Kamiya apartment. "I know that you and TK will be happy with each other."
"Thank you Daisuke." Kari said as she touched his arm. "I never thought I would go back to the digital world ever again. I thought I would actually be allowed to live a normal life." She giggled. "There's never a dull moment."
Davis just nodded. It was nice to be around Kari. She was the best friend he had through his breakup with Ken, and she was still there to support him. TK is sure lucky to have such a wonderful girl.
"Gatomon!" Kari yelled as she waved to the little white cat digimon that was on the roof of the apartment complex across the street. Wizardmon picked Gatomon up and carried her across the street to the balcony where Kari and Davis stood.
"Kari! We need to get to the digital world fast! Lord Devimon is planning on attacking your friends soon!" Kari smiled at her digimon.
"Lead the way Gatomon!" Kari said as she grabbed Davis's hand and Gatomon's paw. Immediately, they were transferred to the base of Spiral Mountain, where the other seven digidestined stood, in a face off with Devimon.
"Kari!" TK called to his fiance as he ran to the young girl. They hugged each other, then turned to Davis.
"Hey!" TK thrust his hands on his hips. "How did you get to stay old and I have to be a little kid!?!" Davis laughed
"Watch it TC, I can definitely beat you up right now."
The three friends turned to the group as they heard a blood-curdling scream. Mimi had been hit by one of Devimon's attacks, and she was hurt, badly. Joe ran over to her as Gomamon kept sending waves of Marching Fishes at Devimon. He checked her vital signs- she wasn't breathing, but she still had a heart beat. With Mimi's condition distracting all of them, no one noticed until it was too late that Davis was missing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"What do you want from me, Ken?" Davis yelled at his former lover from his prison of being chained to the wall. "Name it, and I'll do it. Just don't hurt the others."
The Digimon Emperor laughed as he cracked his whip close enough to Davis where he could feel the air rush past him as it snapped, but far enough away that it didn't hit him.
"You, my dear, must suffer, just like you made me suffer. As for that pathetic group of fools outside battling Devimon, none of them will survive. Why let them live? It's not like they ever will do anything good for the world."
"Ken, this is between us, let them go!" Davis's head jerked to the side as he felt the whip slash his cheek.
"No." He brought the whip down on Davis's shoulder. "They should suffer as well." The force of the whip tore Davis's shirt, and left a lightly bleeding scratch on his chest.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The battle outside was doing about as well as Davis was at the moment. Since none of the digimon could digivolve into the champion level, Devimon had been able to defeat all of them, except for Patamon and Gatomon. Kari clung to TK's arm, and watched in terror as the one rookie and one champion digimon battled the hellish beast.
"TK," Kari said through her sobs, "I love you with all my heart. You are my best friend in the world, and I can trust you with anything. I'm never afraid when you are near me. When we make it through this, I can't wait to be your wife."
TK lifted Kari's chin so he could gaze into her soft amber eyes. "I feel the same way, Hikari. I want to be your husband more than anything else in the world."
The two kissed each other the best their young bodies allowed. While locked in their embrace, both TK and Kari began to age, first to their teenage selves, when they first admitted they loved each other, and finally to their mature selves. As they backed away from each other, Kari smiled as she looked into TK's bright blue eyes. Arm in arm, they turned to see MagnaAngemon and Angewoman locked in the same embrace. At that moment, TK and Kari looked to their tags and crests, and saw that they were ablaze with a brilliant white light.
"Let's go for it" TK said to Kari.
"MagnaAngemon!"
"Angewoman!"
"Digivolve!"
The tags and crests sent the white light on to the two angel digimon. Almost immediately, the two angels began to digivolve- while they were still locked in the embrace.
"Oh... my..." Tentomon said as he looked up from where he lay injured on the ground. "that's..."
"HolySeriphimon" The giant blazing white angel said in a singsong voice. It was dressed in a pure white robe that extended to its feet. "I am the DNA digivolved form of MagnaAngemon and Angewoman. Finally, Hope and Light are one in the same."
HolySeriphimon turned to Devimon and raised its hands. "What do you have to say for yourself, Demon?"
Devimon just smiled at HolySeriphimon. "You know what I have done."
HolySeriphimon nodded to the dark digimon.
"So be it. Judgment Day!" The blazing ball of holy radiance that was forming in the hands of HolySeriphimon found its way towards Devimon. All Devimon could do was smile as he was deleted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Master," Stingmon's shaky voice carried across the chamber to where the whip continued to fall on Davis's limp body. "I think you should see this."
The Digimon Emperor stomped over to the control chair where he could watch the monitors was located.
"This had better be good." The Emperor's eyes grew wide as he watched HolySeriphimon easily delete Devimon. "HOW DID THEY DIGIVOLVE!" He watched as the Digidestined all started moving toward the entrance to his Spiral Mountain chamber.
"I need to get to America." He stated as he held his black D-3 to the DigiPort. Ken and Stingmon, who had dedigivolved to Wormmon disappeared into the computer only a few seconds before the Digidestined found their way into the Emperor's chambers.
"Davis!" Kari screamed as she ran to her friend's side. The others helped her take him from the wall and carried him to the center of the room.
"Kari... I..."
"No, Davis, don't speak. Just tell me who did this to you."
The young man's breathing grew shallow, and even though Joe did his best, his frail young body could not help Davis much. Davis's body soon went limp.
"Davis!" Kari cried. The poor girl was hysterical. "Wake up Davis! You can't leave us! You can't leave! Davis!"
TK touched her shoulder, which in turn caused Kari to weep uncontrollably onto his shirt.
"I know he was one of your best friends Kari. Davis and I were good friends too." TK hugged her, while Kari clung to him.
Matt and Tai picked the limp body up and carried Davis toward the control panel of the DigiPort. Each of the children was taken to Odaiba, and each was returned to their real ages.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Ichijouji."
"Hi Ken, it's Matt." The blond sighed into his phone. "I don't know if there is an easy way of saying this, but," Matt sighed again, "Davis was killed today."
"WHAT!" Ken screamed in pure shock, even though he was in the middle of a restaurant eating lunch with the computer executives he was meeting with. "No... How... how did it happen?"
"We were called back to the digiworld, and in a strange turn of events, the adventure started over. But the difference is Davis was beat to death."
"Beat to death?" Ken felt that he had tears streaming down his face. "I'm coming home Matt. Tell the others for me, ok?"
"Sure Ken. I'll be praying for you."
Ken felt the cell phone fall from his hand and on to the table, but there was no point to picking it up. His Everything was gone. For good. And he was responsible. It wasn't supposed to end this way. Davis was only supposed to learn a lesson, not die.
"A Shiteru, Daisuke Motomiya."
