Knock knock knock

"Uhn... just a second." A male voice called from inside the cabin.

Pan smiled, wondering what Juunana-gou would look (and act) like first thing in the morning.

The male cyborg opened the door and rubbed his eyes.

"Good morning, sleepyhead." She smiled brightly.

"Pan." He groaned, brushing his tangled hair from his eyes. "What time is it?"

"It's eight o' clock. It's not that early." She shrugged. "So this is what you look like first thing in the morning? Nice boxers."

He looked down to his black, silk boxers and blushed.

"What? It's nothing I wouldn't see at the swimming pool, or the beach." She grinned. "Except the hole in the front."

He blushed brighter and opened the door the rest of the way. "Have a seat, Pan-chan. I'll be ready in a minute."

"I thought you didn't need sleep." She stated.

"Not that lucky." He sighed.

"Not as many perks as you thought. Oh well, get dressed, we have a long day ahead of us." Pan shooed him off to where she remembered the bathroom being.

Pan sat down in the livingroom and waited for Juunana-gou to emerge.

***

A few minutes later, and after a very, very, very quick shower, Juunana-gou was ready to go.

"You look way more awake now." She observed, standing up.

He nodded. "Feel that way, too."

"Why don't we go get some breakfast? Since the library doesn't open until nine, anyway."

"Works for me." Juunana agreed.

"Great. I know a great buffet place." Pan grinned and grabbed his hand, pulling him into the air. She was very excited about thier day together, although she didn't know why.

***

After an hour chowing (mainly done by Pan), and being banned from the restaraunt, the duo finally reached the library just as the doors were opened.

"Where to, first?" Pan asked.

He shrugged. "I've never been here before.. not that I can remember at least."

"I guess we should ask information where thier old newspapers are." She decided. "Follow me."

Juunana-gou followed.

"Excuse me." Pan got the attention of the information lady.

"Yes, can I help you?" She asked in monotone.

"Yes. We're looking for news articles on a kidnapping... thirty-seven to forty years ago. Do you think you can help?" She asked.

"A forty year old kidnapping case. Kid, I guarantee, whoever you're looking for is either very old or dead." She went back to filing her nails.

"I'd take that bet." She smirked.

The lady looked up from her nailfile.

"Five bucks says, you show us the newspapers, and we'll find what we're looking for." Pan grinned.

"How do I know if you're lying?" She asked skeptically.

"We're looking for info on him." She leveled a hand toward Juunana-gou.

"There is no way that kid is forty." The librarian accused.

"Believe what you like." Juunana-gou shrugged non-chalently.

"Fine, I'll show you the blasted newspapers." She huffily stood up and started walking.

"What about the bet?" Pan called.

The woman mumbled something under her breath that sounded like 'Damn kids' and unlocked the library vault. "There, but don't you steal nothing."

"A bunch of newspapers?" Juunana-gou raised an eyebrow.

The lady glared and went back to her spot behind the desk.

"We'll just photo-copy anything we need." The girl shrugged and entered the room, immediatly started coughing. "Jeez, dust much?"

Even with his artificial lungs, designed to filter dust and dirt, Juunana-gou still had the urge to cough.

"Whoever cleans this place should get fired." She waved her hand around, trying to get the dust away from her nose. "Anyway, do you have any info about yourself... the year Gero made... er... changed you?"

"That was... 772... I think. That's what his records said, at least." He thought for a minute. "That was when we were completed, that is."

"So, how long do you think it took to finish? A year? Two?" She asked.

"Five." He stated.

"768. Let's start there." She leafed through the files until she came to the right year. "You do half, I'll do the other." The girl split the pile in two and handed Juunana-gou half, sitting down on the floor.

The cyborg shrugged and followed in suit, sitting cross-legged on the dusty floor.

The two sifted through papers, carefully examining for anything related to a kidnapping of two children. They searched through the entire year and found nothing except something about Gero winning an award of excellence for his totally synthetic lifeforms, numbers three and four.

"We must be too far back. Let's try the next year." Pan refiled the newspapers and pulled out the next year, again handing half to Juunana-gou.

The continued leafing through for several more hours, looking at each individual paper, and finding nothing.

"The Satan City Public Library will be closing in ten minutes." A voice called over the intercom.

"Shit." Pan cursed and tossed another paper into the evergrowing pile of useless ones. "This is taking too long."

"Pan." Juunana-gou said, holding up a newspaper in front of his face.

"Did you find something?" She asked, crawling over to his side and reading over his shoulder. "Mystery unsolved, teenagers still missing... is there a picture?"

"Eighteen year old twins Kitty and Andrew Jacobson were reported missing by thier parents Katherine and Joseph yesterday afternoon. The twins, honor students at Green Star Highschool, were "Always well behaved, aside from a mischievious streak that Kit carried," thier mother says. Wednesday afternoon, the children were upgraded to missing. Kat and Joe are offering ten-thousand dollars for the return of thier children, and the reward is negotiable. "We'll do anything to get our kids back," thier father says. "Anything in the world." (continued on pg 6a)." Juunana-gou read.

"Take the paper, I'll clean up this mess." Pan started lifting papers.

"Screw the mess, it was a mess when we got here." He stood up and helped Pan to her feet.

"To Green Star?" She asked.

"To Green Star." He confirmed, tucking the paper under his arm and turning toward the door, heading toward the highschool.

***

"Juunana, are you sure about this? It's illegal." Pan said, following the cyborg to the third story window.

"Our families run this city, Pan. If... and I do say if we get caught, Bulma or Mr. Whatshisface can make in like it never happened." He unlocked the window with a magnetic ki charge. "Besides, no one will know we were ever here."

"All right. If you say so." Pan climbed through the open window. Juunana-gou followed and was immediatly bombarded by sensations and pieces of memories.

Pan proceeded into the computer lab, which they'd stumbled into by accident. "Juu. Did you hear that?"

"What?" He asked, holding his head.

"Voices." She whispered, just as a group of highschool kids came around the corner.

"Hey!" They called. "Who are you?"

"Well... who are you?" She called back.

"Pan?" One of the guys asked.

"Jerry?" She squinted into the darkness. "What are you doing here?"

"Uh... nothing. What are you doing here?" He countered.

"Also... nothing." She said.

"Then it's agreed... we didn't see nothing." The football players of Orange Star proceeded down the hallway as Pan and Juunana-gou entered the tech lab.

"Those guys are from my school." She said. "Probably going to steal the school's mascot."

"Why would they do that?" He asked.

"Taunting. We have a game coming up." She answered. "Now, to hack... what were those names?"

"Kitty and Andrew." He said. "Jacobson."

"Got it." She started the computer and began typing rapidly, checking the database for years past. Pan scrolled through a list of Jacobsons before narrowing it down to five. Three Kittys and two Andrews. "I hope they have picture files."

Juunana-gou leaned over her shoulder as Pan brought up the profiles of each former student.

"Andrew number one!" She clicked, bring up the student info. "Graduated Green Star, 789. Nope. So the other must be you." She brought the profile up. "Andrew Jacobson, 769, grade incomplete... picture, picture... aha!" The girl clicked. Both Juunana-gou and Pan unconsciencly held thier breath, waiting for the image to load.

"Kami. It's me." Juunana-gou exhaled. A picture of a boy identical to the cyborg came onto the screen, his eyes green and full of youthful exuberance, a wide smile plastered on his face.

"Let's find your address." She hit the back button and searched for a street address. "It's gotta be here somewhere... she scrolled until she saw the address, written in fine print toward the bottom. "1375 Cherry Oak lane. Orange Star City, Japan."

"Orange Star City?" Pan asked.

"Satan City before it was renamed for your Grandfather." Juunana-gou recalled.

"Juu... that's the rich part of town. My grandpa lives at 1379." She turned to her friend. "Maybe he knows something."

"Print it out... let's also find Juuhachi's picture. She might want to know about all this." He reached over her shoulders and clicked the print button. The laser printer had the information on both teens on paper in no time.

"Now let's get out of here before we get caught." Pan shut down the computer and printer, and left the same way they came, Juunana-gou following close behind.

***

"Do you mind if I stay at your house tonight?" Pan asked. "I don't want to wake everyone in Capsule Corp. up, and if I go home, my dad will ask all kinds of questions."

"I don't mind." He shrugged.

"Cool. We'll go see my grandpa in the morning." She said as the two entered the dense forest.

The cyborg groaned.

"What?" She asked, stepping on the moist ground.

"Your grandfather isn't exactly my favorite person." He said.

"Well, mine neither, but if we want to find out, we've got to go." She started walking.

He followed. "Do you think he'll know anything? No offense, but he's usually wrapped up in himself.. not paying attention to other people."

"He knows the neighbors. He likes to brag to them." Pan said.

"Guess that makes sense." Juunana-gou replied.

She nodded as they approached his small cabin. "Do you have an extra bed?"

"Uhm... no." He realized. "Oh well, I'll sleep on the couch."

"Don't bother, I'll sleep on the couch." She said. "It's your house."

"You're my guest." He countered.

"Simple solution." She grinned mischieviously.

"What's that?" He unlocked the door.

"We share the bed." Pan pulled the door shut and dragged Juunana-gou into the house.

"W-what?" His blue eyes widened.

"Oh, come on, I've known you since I was born, I fell asleep in your lap all the time.." She continued walking.

"It's not the same..." He mumbled.

"Sure it is." She pushed him onto the bed and pulled her orange bandana off, and started removing her shoes. "I don't bite." She started unbuckling her pants.

Juunana-gou's eyes widened. "Pan...!"

"It's just like a bathing suit." She turned her back to him and pulled her shirt off. "Could you get that?" She pointed to the clip of her bra.

Although he wasn't sure why, the cyborg felt his mouth go suddenly dry. "Yeah." He rasped and reached up, hand trembling slightly, and unhooked the clasp.

::Stop salivating over Pan, you idiot!:: He thought to himself. Unfortunatly, the thoughts disappeared as her bra straps slid from her shoulder and hit the floor. The girl pulled her shirt over her head and jumped into bed. The cyborg couldn't help but stare as her chest bounced with the bed. ::You are NOT thinking about Pan like that! You're not...Yes, I am..::

"Night night." She turned on her side and pulled the lamp cord.

"Night." He mumbled, closing his eyes.

"Juu?" She asked.

"Hmm?" He replied.

"Nothing." She shook her head slightly, trying to rid the thoughts. She still remembered waking up on this very same bed, that terrible void in her heart, the ache between her legs... it was still vivid. Pan felt tears stinging at her eyes, she hated herself for being so weak, so stupid... her breath hitched and a muffled sob escaped.

Juunana-gou's eyes opened and he peered over. Pan's shoulders were shaking and her breath had become ragged and uneven. "What's wrong?"

She sobbed louder and shook her head.

The cyborg placed a large hand on her shoulder.

"Juunana, how did this happen?" She cried, turning to him and burying her face against his chest. "How did my life turn out like this? I'm a warrior! I fought against... everything...! And I can't even protect myself... I- I lost my virginity to him... that wasn't how it was supposed to happen... not like that..." She wept, pouring her heart out to her friend.

He couldn't believe she was still blaming herself, after all this time, it must have always been there, but she pushed it down, trying to get on with her life. "Pan, no one knows when things like this happen. That's how life is, you never know what's going to happen next. You have to take the good with the bad, the mixture is what makes life great, even if it doesn't seem like it now." He wrapped her arms around her slim form.

"It's not fair." She cried.

"Don't I know it." He replied.

Pan continued sobbing, finally falling asleep in his arms.

***

"Pan." A voice said.

"Grandpa?" She asked, walking unknowingly into the void.

"Pan." He said again, louder this time.

"Where are you?" She asked, reaching out with her ki sense.

"Pan." A large hand fell on her shoulder.

She stiffened and turned around slowly, meeting Goku's loving gaze. "Grandpa Goku! I missed you!"

"Pan-chan." He caught her as she jumped into his arms. "I missed you, too. You got big."

She nodded, tears of joy falling from her eyes. "Hai, I did. I missed you so much... are... are you coming back now?"

"Not yet." He said. "I've still got some things to do, but I will be back."

"When?" She asked.

"Soon." He answered.

"This... this is a dream, isn't it?" She asked.

"It's a vision." He replied. "A message from me. Don't tell anyone, not yet. They'll know in time. But I do have another message for you."
"What?" Pan asked.

"Don't dwell on the past." Goku said.

"What? Do you... do you know?" She asked softly.

"I know." He confirmed.

She looked away.

He gently brought her face back toward his. "Pan, don't dwell on things that have past. It's not your fault. Things have a way of working out. They always do. You'll see, soon enough. I know it. I have to go now."

"No, please." She held his hand tightly. "I need you."

"You don't need me. I taught you everything I know, it's your turn to teach." He started fading from under her.

"No... please." She cried, feeling the warmth fade, seeing him become transparent before her eyes. "Please.. Grandpa.... no."

"See you later, Panny. I love you." He disappeared.

***

"No... please. Come back!" She called in her sleep, waking Juunana-gou up.

"Pan, wake up." He shook her slightly. "Wake up, Panny."

Her eyes shot open and she reached up, rubbing her eyes. "Just a dream." She mumbled.

"You okay?" He asked.

"I'm fine.." She said. "I'm great." She smiled, remembering. Her grandpa was coming back. "What time is it?"

"Six." He answered.

"Might as well get up. You can use the shower first, I'll make breakfast." She threw the covers from herself and started for the other room.

Juunana-gou smiled. He was going to find his past. And just maybe he''d find a future, too.
