"Pan....earth to Pan, come in Pan." Bra waved her hands in front of Pan's face. She had been staring off into space for the last few minutes, and usually fighting was the most important thing to Pan, something was wrong.
"Hmm? Oh, sorry Bra." Pan said quietly, not her usual bouncy and enthusiastic voice. "I'm just thinking."
"Are you ok? You've gotten quiet all of a sudden, you haven't been like this since...you know." She hesitated.
Pan closed her eyes let the breeze brush past her pale skin, she couldn't tell Bra what had happened, she just couldn't bring herself to say. Everything had changed between her and Trunks, it used to be a crush, and then she finds out he wants her, it was just too much.
"I'm fine." She didn't sound convinced, even to herself.
"You don't sound fine, Pan, just tell me what's on your mind, I'm your best friend." Bra urged.
"I don't want to talk about it." Pan announced. "Let's just fight."
"Pan, something's wrong, either tell me of I'll go spar with my brother or dad, because you're not paying attention." Bra crossed her arms Vegeta style.
Pan shuddered, it was Trunks that got her into this mess again. She was doing fine until he came along and tried to seduce her, now she was back to square one.
"Fine, I'm going out flying, I'll spar with you tomorrow." Pan took off into the air leaving an angry and confused Bra standing on the ground.
"What was that about?" She wondered aloud.
"Trunks." The answer came from behind.
"Huh? Oh, hi Juu-kun. What do you mean Trunks? I know she has a crush on him and all, but...?" She trailed off, not sure of what she was thinking.
Juunana-gou proceeded to explain the previous nights events to Bra.
"That idiot!" Bra slapped her forehead. "My brother is so dense."
"I couldn't agree more." He nodded.
"Remind me to kick his butt good." Bra took off into the air.
***
'Tap tap' Bra levitated up to Trunks' office window and rapped on the window. 'Tap tap'
"What-Bra?" Trunks opened the large window easily. "What are you doing?"
"You're an idiot." Bra snapped.
"And you flew up here just to tell me that?" He asked.
Bra stepped into his office. "Pan was just getting back to normal. How could you do that!?" She demanded.
"She told you?!" He asked incredulously.
"No, Juunana-gou told me. I asked what was up with her and he explained...EVERYTHING." She stressed.
"Listen Bra." Trunks took her by the shoulders. "I wasn't thinking. I was being a hormone crazed Saiyan, you gotta know what that's like."
"I don't know what it's like, I keep myself in check, Trunks, you should too." She brushed his hands off her shoulders.
"You mean...never?" He asked.
"I'm only 17 you bafoon, I'm not some slut that sleeps with everyone around, you know." She crossed her arms.
"I was 15..." He said out of the blue, he had really thought Bra's last boyfriend had been the one. "You probably didn't want to know that, but you have to at least understand where I'm coming from."
"I can understand, but that doesn't mean it wasn't stupid." She said pointedly. "You really better be more careful in the future."
"I know, I know. Like I said, it was just a big mistake, I hope Pan isn't mad at me." Said Trunks.
"She's not mad, just confused, I think you should talk to her." Bra instructed.
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" He asked skeptically. Bra only nodded. "All right, I'll talk to her after work."
"You talk to her now, I'll fill in for you here, she went east; just follow her ki." She pointed out the window. Trunks nodded and took off out the window.
***
Trunks landed in a small clearing in the woods and walked toward where he sensed Pan's ki. Pan was sitting against a giant Oak tree crying softly.
"Pan." He called out quietly. She stiffened immediatly and brushed the tears from her eyes. "Pan, I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to." He slowly walked toward her and she shrunk back into the tree in turn. Trunks looked hurt, but stopped advancing. "I'm not going to hurt you, Pan. I just wanted to tell you that I feel really bad about last night and that I'm sorry. I lost control...the problem is that your just too damn irresistable."
Pan looked up slowly and met Trunks' clear blue eyes with her shiny black ones.
"Trunks, you don't even know what you do to me." Pan stated quietly.
"What do you mean?" He asked just as quietly.
"I've loved you, or at least I thought I loved you, for as long as I can remember. I thought you'd never see me as anything aside from your best friends' little neice, and then you go and do this, how am I suppossed to deal with that after all that's happened to me?" She asked. "Do you love me, or were you just releasing an urge?"
"I don't know. You loved me?" Trunks sat down on the ground in front of her.
"I thought I did, but now I'm not so sure. One thing this whole mess did was put things into perspective. I don't know." She looked down. "Maybe it was just a crush."
"I'm really sorry, Panny. I didn't know what I was doing, I wasn't thinking, and I didn't know you felt that way about me. I wasn't trying to play with your mind, you gotta believe me." He took her hand and looked her in the eye.
"I know. I know you weren't screwing with my head. It's just hard. What would you do if it were you?" Said Pan.
"I'm glad your not mad at me, but could you do me a favor though?" He asked worridly.
"What's that?" She inquired.
"Don't tell Gohan." He said.
Pan laughed for the first time in weeks. Trunks smiled and eventually laughed. "I won't tell."
"Thanks Panny. You know your dad would kill me if he found out." Trunks grabbed his side and wheezed.
"I know." She smiled. "I won't let daddy decapitate you." She promised.
"That's good to know. Your dad really could kill me if he wanted to." He affirmed.
Pan nodded. "We should get back, I'll bet Bra's worried about me."
"Nah, she's the one that told me what an idiot I've been, she knows where we are. Why don't you let me take you out for ice cream, Baskin Robins, my treat." He stood up and offered a hand.
"Out...like into the city?" She looked up.
"Don't worry Pan-chan, I'll protect you." He grinned. "Although I'll bet if any guy got near you, you could rip him limb from limb."
Pan took Trunks' outstretched hand and the two hopped in his capsule car (which he had thought to bring), and drove off towards the city.
***
"All right, Pan. It's about three blocks from here. We can walk the rest of the way." He stepped out of the car and opened her door.
Pan nodded timidly and stepped out. They were going to walk right by the place of the incident and she hoped she wouldn't make a fool of herself by bursting into tears or something.
::I should be getting back to studying soon. It's almost time to start school back up. I wonder if anybody misses me. Who am I kidding, I bet no one even noticed I was gone.:: Pan was snapped out of her short reverie by someone calling her name.
"Pan!" One girl called.
"Panny!" Another shouted.
"Pan-chan!" The third yelled.
"Huh?" Pan looked up. "Melissa? Ruby? Joanne?"
"Panny!" The girls ran over. "Where have you been? We missed you."
"Uhm..." She tried to think of an excuse fast, but couldn't think of any reason to be hiding out for three weeks. She really didn't want to talk about what happened.
"Panny had mono." Trunks interjected. "But she's all better now. I'm taking her for a glad-your-well ice cream cone."
"Who's this hot hunk of man you've got on your arm, Panny? New boyfriend? You two lovin the lovin?" The first one winked and nudged Pan in the side.
"This is Trunks Briefs." Pan said, while blushing. Trunks was also blushing fiercly. "He's my uncle Goten's best friend. My good friend too. Our parents go way way back."
"Just friends?" Another winked.
"For now at least." Trunks answered. "Well, I have to have her back by a certain time, so I better get going."
"So we'll see you at school next week?" The one named Joanne asked.
"Uhm, probably, I'll just have to see how I feel." She replied. "Well, talk to you later." The girls waved as Trunks and Pan walked off together.
***
"Okay okay...I got one." Pan said. "How many blondes does it take to screw in a lightbulb?"
"Hmm." Trunks put his hand on his chin. "I dunno, how many?"
"Two; one to hold the pepsi and the other to yell: Daddy!" Pan giggled. Trunks laughed.
"My turn. What's 2000 bagpipes at the bottom of a lake?" Trunks asked.
"I dunno, what?" She asked.
"A good start!" Trunks said, and Pan burst out laughing.
"Where did you hear that?" Pan asked, still giggling.
"Actually it was my dad in one of his rare playful moments. Can you believe it?" Trunks asked.
"Wow, Vegeta told a joke? The world must be ending; Take cover!" Pan ducked under the table laughing and then came back up a few seconds later and took another spoonful of ice cream. Trunks also took a bite of ice cream.
"Uh oh. It's almost 9:30, I told Bra I'd only be a few minutes. We should probably get going." Trunks checked his watch.
"Yeah, I should call my dad and get clothes if I'm going back to school next week." Pan stood up and tossed the remainder of her bowl away, and Trunks did the same.
"So, you're going home?" He looked kind of dissappointed.
"Not unless you want me to." She stated, walking out of the store.
"No no, I was just wondering." He waved his hands in front of his face. "By the way, if you see Goten, tell him to get his butt over to Capsule Corp, I haven't seen him ever since he started working."
"Okay." Pan nodded. "Do you guys want to do something with Bra and me sometime? I'm sure Goten and Bra would like that."
"Maybe we should go out somewhere together." Trunks suggested. "How about-" He ran into something. "Oh, I'm sorry, sir." He had knocked a man in a wheelchair right to the ground. "I wasn't paying attention, are you all right?" Trunks pulled him up. The man didn't answer, he was staring at Pan, and Pan was staring back. "Hey, you okay?...Pan?" Trunks looked over to Pan who was staring dumbly at the man in the wheelchair.
Pan stood frozen. Trunks had just run into the man that did this horrible thing to her, she couldn't move, only stare stupidly. Finally she shook herself out of her deer-in-the-headlights state and grabbed Trunks' hand, her own hand shaking like a leaf.
"What'd I miss?" Trunks asked.
::Pan, Pan, tell me what's wrong.:: He thought to her, Kami praise their Saiyan genes.
::That's him..The one who...." She trailed off in her thoughts.
Trunks took a step back from the guy and looked from him to Pan.
::Are you sure, Pan?:: Trunks asked.
"Positive." She whispered. Trunks visibly struggled not to go Super Saiyan after what Pan said. This animal had done that vile thing to Panny and he was alive?!
The guy finally got a grip on his senses and looked at the trembling duo. "Uhm...hi."
"Hi!?" Trunks demanded. "HI!? How could you just say 'hi' after what you did to her?!"
"Trunks, it's okay." Pan said quietly.
"It is NOT okay." Trunks insisted.
"Trunks, don't." Pan held him by the arm.
"Could we talk?" The man asked.
"Like hell!" Trunks screamed.
"Yes." Pan said. "Somewhere more private."
::Trunks, just go up on the roof of the building over the alleyway, I'll be fine, he's in a wheelchair for crying out loud.::
Trunks nodded reluctantly and took off into the air. Luckily the street was pretty much deserted in this part of town.
***
"You do know you've ruined my life, right?" Pan folded her arms over her chest and scowled. "The man of my dreams came onto me, and because of you, I was too scared to do anything. Damnit, when it rains it fucking pours."
"Listen, I know I'm probably the last person you want to see right now." The man started.
"No, the last person I'd want to see right now would a tie between the evil Shenlongs, for obvious reasons, and my grandpa Goku, he so sweet and naive, but he's got one hell of a temper when it comes to family. If he were here, you'd be dead." Pan interjected.
"I just wanted to tell you that I really am sorry. I was drunk, and I know that's no excuse, but you do dumb-no, incredibly stupid things, things you wish you could undo, when your drunk. This was one of them. I'm not usually like that, I didn't even know those guys I was with, I'm normally a pretty good guy. I got drunk because my wife was cheating on me, I went with the gang, for whatever reason, I don't even know...I don't even know how I remembered who you were, I guess something clicked, but in any case, I'm really, truely sorry for what I've done to you, and what I've put you and your friends and family through. I don't expect forgiveness, I can't even forgive myself, let alone expect you to forgive me, but I hope you just know that if I had it to do over, I never would have taken that first drink." He finished and looked down. "You were right when you said I didn't know the kind of love you had, my wife obviously doesn't love me, I've pretty much got no friends...so I'll leave you to live your life and just hope you believe me." He turned to leave.
"Did you love her?" Pan asked.
"Who?" He flipped the chair back around, his blonde locks brushing his face in the breeze. Green eyes sparkling with pain and remorse. Pan couldn't help noticing how un-Japanese he looked.
"Your wife." She continued to hold herself around her middle.
"I did, but apparently the feeling wasn't mutual." He said sadly.
"You know, one good thing did come out of this mess." Pan uncrossed her arms and recrossed them in a different position.
The man tipped his head.
"It really put things into perspective." She stated. "You know I used to cry over the pettiest things. Lost boyfriends, Trunks, it all seems so unimportant compared to the velocity that this hit me with. I'm only seventeen, and I've really matured over the past three weeks. I've learned something from this, I hope you have too. Let me ask you something, do you remember my name?"
"I do, Son Pan." He answered. "I couldn't forget it if I tried. I wish I could, because it hurts to remember, but I think I always will."
"What's your name?" She asked.
"Why would you want to know my name? It would just be...more painful." He looked down.
::I'll find out either way, so you might as well tell me.:: She thought to him, to prove her point.
"What...telepathy?" He asked.
"Hai, Saiyans can do that. So are you going to tell me or not?" She asked impatiently.
"David Birdrim." He said. "You gonna send me off to jail? Need to know to identify me? Not that I blame you." He looked down again.
"No...Good idea, but no. I don't need the so called police to handle problems that my family is far more capable of handling alone. Satan City is one big sham, it's run by my grandpa, defended by the Super Saiyamen, and I know them all. Besides, I'd rather handle something like this in private, I have a witness so there would be no point in denying, but that's just the point. We all know what you did, there's no reason to have to get examined, tested, questioned. You get the picture." Pan tapped her foot lightly. She wasn't scared anymore, Trunks was watching from above, and the man was in a wheelchair.
"Your grandpa owns Satan City...you're Mister Satan's granddaughter?!" He wheeled back a few inches.
"Yeah, you really picked good." She said sarcastically. "Not only did you pick Mr. Satan's granddaughter, but a personal family friend of the Briefs. My other Grandpa knew Bulma Briefs personally, my uncle is best friends with Trunks." She pointed up. "My best friend is Bra. Vegeta trained me and helped train my father as well, at least a little bit."
"I dug myself in good. I heard that Bulma Briefs husband was an alien of some sort. You know with that tail and all." He said.
"Oh yeah, that." Pan turned around and pulled her pants down a few inches. "You mean right about here?" She pointed to the brown spot on her spine. "Grandpa Goku was one too. Meaning Daddy's half, and I'm a fourth. But hush hush, cuz I could blackmail you real easily."
"You're an alien?" He asked.
"A fourth. That's why I said I was too human for bullets not to affect me." She floated up a few feet. "I can fly, fight, and go Super Saiyan, but I'm only a fourth Saiyan, and bullets could still kill me. I may be fast, but not that fast at close range. That's why I couldn't get away, and that is exactly the reason why my family doesn't drink, can you imagine a drunken Saiyan?" She said more to herself. "Anyway, I do forgive you, at first I only forgave you because I thought you deserved pity, I figured you had to be ill to do something like this to an innocent teenager, but I can see you really are sorry, and when I think about it, your breath did smell like beer. Now I forgive you because I know it was a mistake, I just wish I could undo what's been done." She gestured mildly to her privates. "That was really not how I pictured my first time."
"My gosh...it...I...your first time?" He asked.
"Yes, I told you that before. Be proud, you have claimed Son Pan's virginity." She said sarcastically, hugging herself tighter.
"Must have been the painkillers they had me on." He said mildly, but became serious again fast. "Did I hurt you? I didn't mean to, I mean I didn't mean to do any of that, but I especially didn't mean to hurt you, but I know the first time can hurt and....I'm sorry. I wish I could do something to repay you, anything, I mean your being so calm about this, even more than me. If it were me I'd kill you or throw you in jail, but I guess it doesn't matter...I still didn't mean to hurt you and I'm really sorry if I did." He babbled.
"That is an understatment." She said. "Yes, it did hurt, alot, more than alot, it was indescribeably painful, that was to be expected. I was tense and dry, so it was much worse, and I know you're sorry, and I know you didn't mean to. Trust me, if I didn't think you were sorry, you would be dead right now, I've killed beings bigger, stronger, and faster than you. As for payment, I think the guilt is punishment enough, just do me and all the other females of earth a big favor and never touch alcohol again, you really are a mean drunk."
"Tell me what happened please." He said. "I want to know, I'm pretty sure you showed me before, but I didn't really remember anything other than your name and the last things you said."
"Why would you want to know what was going on?" She asked.
"To know better what I put you through." He said. "I just feel obligated."
Pan peeked at her watch and then up at Trunks. "I have to go home now." She started. "But I'll meet you at the park next to Orange Star High, next to the fountain, at 1 p.m. I might be a little late, because I spar right before lunch, and Saiyans eat alot, but I'll be there. If you really want to know, meet me there tomorrow." Pan took off into the air leaving the man sitting in his wheelchair in wonderment. She could have handled that so differently, but she took the honorable road. She was being very cool about this.
***
"Let's go home Trunks." Pan landed on the roof and watched the man leave the dark alleyway slowly.
"What were you talking about?" He asked.
"Trunks, don't pretend you weren't listening to every word that went on. I'm a Saiyan too, I know how well you hear." She said.
"Damn." He cursed.
"You heard it, so do you feel any differently now?" Pan asked.
"Somewhat." He confessed. "At least I know it wasn't a conscience discision, but the beer. I'm still pissed though."
"I am too, but not at anything in particular now, it's more like I'm pissed at the situation, you know?" She said. "The guy that raped me wants to know what happened because he was too blitzed to remember. You tried to sleep with me, but don't know if you like me or not, I don't know if I love you like that anymore, I have no boyfriend to help me through this...this situation is getting worse by the day."
"Tell me about it, but answer me this: Why on Kami's green earth, are you going to meet him, alone in the park tomorrow?" Trunks asked as they took off.
"I don't really know." She admitted, falling into pace next to him. "I can't explain, or give a good reason, but it just feels like a good idea. I'll bet at least one of you, if not all, will follow me, but I don't really care, just keep Bra away, I don't think she needs to hear what I'm going to tell him. Personally, I don't think any of you could handle hearing this, but you're going to anyway, so I won't try and argue."
Trunks nodded and they flew the rest of the way home in silence.
