Genma is Ranmas father. He is Souns dear friend and helped arrange the engagement between Ranma and Akane. He is very lazy and even though he is a great martial artist, he hardly ever uses his skills. He attempts to do his best for ranma but ends up mucking it up.
He took ranma away from his mother when he was a baby, and swore that he would make ranma as manly as possible. (But ended up making ranma a girl instead). Genma is to blame for Ranmas curse, as he took him to the cursed springs of Jusenkyo in China. Genma turns into a giant panda when splased with cold water.
