Dressage Judges:
What do those letters mean??

The US has three levels of "qualified" dressage judges, plus a category of judges in training called "L" judges.

US Judge Designations:
"L" - Learner judge; can judge schooling shows and USDF League shows
"r" - Recorded judge; can judge any AHSA recognized show from Training level thru Second level
"R" - Registered judge; can judge any AHSA recognized show from Training thru Fourth Level
"S" - International judge; (a little confusing, used to be "I", the same as the FEI designation and if the judge was approved prior to 1972?4?, still an "I") can judge any AHSA recognized show from Training thru FEI levels

FEI approved shows use "I" and "O" judges
FEI "I" - international
FEI "O" - open, most senior rank and I think still only two US dressage "O" judges (Axel Steiner and Linda Zang); can judge any FEI show up to and including Olympics, World Cup, World Equestrian Games, etc.
