About Neis Kah 1
Neis kah1 was built on the Chippewa-Ojibway Reserve in Rama, Ontario.  Hence the name "Neis kah", (pronounced "Nis ka"), which in the lnaguage of the Cree of James Bay means the bird known as the Canada Goose.

Neis kah1 is an adaptation of the 1850's Clipper Schooners of the East Coast of Canada and the United States.  These small schooners were used mainly to trade and carry goods up and down the coastal ports and the Caribbean, (Rum Running!).

Neis kah's entire construction being extremely seaworthy and sturdy is designed for safety and comfort both inland and ocean sailing.  Even her keel is covered in a steel shoe,  She is set apart by the 11' tall Canada Goose in full flight on her main sail.  Her sails were "built" in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, in the same sail loft as the sails for the original "BLUENOSE".

As well as strength, her designer/owner has paid particular attention to details on this sleek and elegant handcrafted ship:  From the traditional clipper bow which enables her to "swim" smoothly and maintain a dry foredeck to the hand carved trailboards on the bow and quarter badges at the stern.  Even the ends of the spars are traditionally painted red to protect the ship fron "evil spirits".

Her external appearance is meticulously maintained while her interior is an impressive display of fine cabinetry of rare, exotic woods.  As well, she offers luxurious, comfortable accomodation, completed by the addition of modern conveniences which promise the ultimate in comfort for Neis kah's most precious cargo: her crew and passengers, (trainees).

Neis kah1 is able to accomodate 12 passsengers for 3,4, or 8 hour sails or 4 guests overnight or for extended passsages on Georgian Bay.  Her guests will have the opportunity to learn hands-on sailing of a tall ship as well as an appreciation for the role these ships played in the economic development of our East Coast.

Neis kah1 sails out of Midland, Ontario, Canada from June to October and offers her passengers a chance to see beautiful Georgian Bay as it should be seen, from the decks of a classic schooner.

While at dockside we usually offer on board tours and a short presentation on the history of the vessel along with the important role these vessels played in Canada's economic development.  Also at dockside we offer a short "Introduction to Sailing" program for interested individuals or programs for the younger crowd on "knot tying".
