This is an interview with Neil McKenzie which he agreed to do for this site. It Makes a great addition for our one year annivesary of the site

  1. As a child Who were your sporting hero's?
    1. probably the Mean Machine team of Transvaal, my dad payed for them along with Jimmy Cook, Clive Rice, Graeme Pollock etc.
    2. West Indies - Viv Richards


  2. When your father was playing in the rebel tests did you get the opportunity to watch him play?
    Yes, watched him playing the Aussies (Kim Hughes) and the West Indies (Colin Croft), S.A. had a great side, its a shame isolation was around.

  3. What is the best bit of advice you were given as a young cricketer starting out?
    If you want something badly enough, you'll achieve it.

  4. I read in an interview that all the althletes taking part in the Special Olympics are your sporting hero's, I was wondering if you are involved with them at all?
    Not directly with the Olympic athletes unfortunately.

  5. Nowadays it seems more people like one-dayers as apposed to test match) although I am not sure why, I think test matches require much more skill) Which form of the game do you prefer? Probably Test maches but like the demands of both.

  6. What is the funniest incident you have witnessed while playing cricket?
    don't know about witnessed, I was the victim. When my pants came down after diving to stop a ball - Melbourne Stadium (Indoors).

  7. Do you have a favourite oval to play cricket in South Africa and when touring?
    The Wanders, and newlands and super Sport Park.
    Enjoyed the SCG and ground in Barbados


  8. If you were not playing cricket what would you like to be doing?
    Playing Rugby (although not big enough for contact I want).
    Probably school teacher Market/Advertising Sports and events.


  9. This question is for Sabina. Who is the funniest, crankiest, mischiecious and smartest teammate in the national side?
    Everyone has there moments but (F)- Herschelle, (C)- Physio - Craig, (M)- Boucher, (S)- Kirsten.

  10. I rally enjoyed reading the postcards and articles on the BBC sports site last season, I found them very interesting. Have you thought of writing a tour diary like Steve Waugh does? (If you did I would be one of the first in line to buy it).
    No, I have to do and achieve much, much more. Maybe socially I could, relay my holiday trips like running with the Bulls in Pampalona (Spain).
