McKenzie 'disappointed' with 90 Souce: Supercricket - Neil Manthorp - 16-08-03

Neil Mckenzie was the toast of the South African dressing room with a fighting innings of 90 that dragged his team back in to the third Test at Trent Bridge but the Northerns star had mixed feelings about his contribution.

"I suppose I would have taken the idea of scoring 90 if you'd suggested it at the end of the day but I'm disappointed in not reaching the century and even more disappointed in not scoring 140. It was vital to push on and reduce the deficit as much as possible," McKenzie said at the close of play.

"It wasn't easy to bat out there but you just have to stay positive when a ball keeps low or climbs. You have to put those out of your mind and get ready for the next ball. It was a question of getting onto the front foot, keep the movement going forward and getting your head over the ball,"

McKenzie said when asked how he had made batting look simpler than most others.

Shaun Pollock revealed that it was McKenzie who had suggested the team all wear their caps for the final over of the day.

"We have 'all cap' sessions sometimes when we want something special to happen and it was Makkie who called it this time. To get the wicket (of Marcus Trescothick) first up gave us a huge boost," Pollock said.
