McKenzie gains edge in draw Souce: BBC Sport - 17-07-03

McKenzie missed the one-day series with a back injury Neil McKenzie boosted his hopes of a Test place as South Africa's tour match against Somerset dwindled to a rain-hit draw.

Play was not possible until 1415BST because of rain.

But McKenzie, who missed the one-day portion of the tour because of a back injury, managed to reach 82 not out before captain Graeme Smith declared at 245-4.

Boeta Dippenaar, McKenzie's greatest rival for a middle-order place at Edgbaston next week, was out for 68, caught off the bowling of compatriot Gary Gilder, who is on trial with the Cidermen.

Robin Peterson was the other batsman dismissed for six, adding nothing to his claims to a Test spot ahead of fellow spinner Paul Adams.

In the 25 remaining overs there were wickets for each of the newly-arrived pace bowlers.

Monde Zondeki was the pick of the trio, bowling with more control than Dewald Pretorius and Charl Willoughby.
