Johannesburg - Two new faces joined the South African
cricket squad for the last two Standard Bank one-day
matches against Sri Lanka in Neil McKenzie and Robin
Peterson.
Since the squad was enlarged to 15 players, only Justin
Ontong lost his place in the original squad that was
appointed for the first three
matches of the series.
Peterson has been knocking on the door for some time now
and it came as a surprise that he was not already in the
squad for the first three matches.
The Border fast bowler, Monde Zondeki has been in the
squad as an observer so far, but he could get his chance
to play in the last match should South Africa seal the
series in Kimberley on Wednesday.
Gary Kirsten, for whom time is running out to play his
way into the national one-day side for the World Cup,
will captain the South Africa 'A' side that will play in
a day/night match against Pakistan at Willowmoore Park in
Benoni on Thursday.
The left-handed Northern Titans opener Jacques Rudolph
will also get a chance in that match as will the
middle-order bat Ashwell Prince who will be measured
against Ontong who will also get his chance to impress
the selectors anew in that match.
The South African squad for the last two matches against
Sri Lanka and the South Africa 'A' side are:
South Africa: Shaun Pollock (c), Mark Boucher, Boeta
Dippenaar, Nicky Bojé, Allan Donald, Herschelle Gibbs,
Andrew Hall, Jacques Kallis, Lance Klusener, Neil
McKenzie, Makhaya Ntini, Robin Peterson, Jonty Rhodes,
Graeme Smith and Monde Zondeki.
The SA 'A' side against Pakistan: Gary
Kirsten (c), Daryll Cullinan, Alan Dawson, Steve
