Pet hates:
I hate negativity. I hate the way fans can only
find fault or negative things when a side is losing (and
in some cases not even losing but have lost there first
wicket) why not look for the positives it is surprising
how much better you feel doing this. (If you want
an example of negativity go to adelaide oval and listen
to some of the members give up on there team long before
they should)
Funny incident at the cricket: One of the funniest incidents I have seen at the cricket involves my friend. It was Australia V's England and David Gower had scored 100 for England. After the days play a few of us were getting David Gower's Autograph and my friend's turn came. She said "Congratulations on your 100, but don't do it again". At which he said "why" then looked up and said "Oh" just at this point she tripped down a couple of steps (unhurt). We were watching her and listening and it was so funny seeing the look on David Gower's face and then her tripping.
Worst injury witnessed at the cricket: It would have to be the concussion if Brad Oldroyd for the Western Warriors against the Redbacks 2001. Peter McIntyre and Brad collided and Brad went down for the count. They had to get the ambulance to take him to the hospital. He was ok. I saw Bruce Yardley injure his jaw badly also.
A fact about me: I support the Western Warriors and there is nothing better than going to a Western Warriors V's Redbacks game and sitting in the members at Adelaide Oval and barracking for the Western Warriors. Nothing like being one of the very few supporters for the opposition.
More
about me:
I grow up with parents who
love cricket and a brother who played school boys
cricket. I remember in summer listening to cricket
on the radio. I guess I had no choice but to
like cricket. I remember around the end of primary
school really getting into cricket and my first real
favourite player was Kim Hughes. This is where my
love for The Western Warriors started. After Kim
Hughes retired Craig McDermott was my favourite player
followed by Justin Langer. I have had other
favourites but these are my most favourite. Of
course now Neil McKenzie is right up there with
them. I went to my first ever game when I was 17 a
match between South Australia and West Indies. I
had to leave early and it rained for most of the
time. The very first autograph I ever got was of
Sir Vivian Richards.
Since then i have missed only one test match at Adelaide
oval. That was against India when the game was
moved from the Long weekend in January to the following
week. I also try to get to all Warrior games played
at Adelaide oval.
Backyard
cricket:
When I was growing up my brother who is just
over 4 years older than me and I use to play backyard
cricket. We use to play tests matches (and you can
guess who won most games) The rules were simple.
Hit the fence on the side 4, over the fence was 6 and out
and fetch your own ball (one thing i never did). We
used a bin for the wickets in front of the side of the
garage so it the ball hit the garage on the full it
was caught behind or in slips. Hit the clothes
line, netball ring and on tree, caught. the back
fence 2. Hit the house 4. Hit mum's garden
out and retrieve the ball at your own risk. We
started playing when i was about 8. My brother
played school boys cricket and was always best and
fairest. I was hopeless at sport. He was also
umpire which may explain a few things. I use
to get frustrated as playing test I had to bowl my
brother out 10 times and it took ages so I use to give
up. After awhile the rules changed when I got him
out I would then bat and get 2 chances. I hit
mainly on the off side as there was less chance of the
ball going over the fence. We also worked out if
you have 6 ball (tennis balls) it saved chasing the ball
that hit the fence. (As you can see I had to end up
loving cricket). Oh we use to be Australia v's who
ever was touring. Then went on to using friends and
deciding who was a bowler, batsman etc. and choosing our
team The only time I was ever captain.
