Woodbridge (by Robert Mondavi), Merlot, California 1997
- Date: 21 Feb '00
- Rating: 88
- Notes: Very dark purple/ruby with black-purple centre. After a little while
opening up (around one hour), it gave reasonably intense aromas of spice, vanilla and blackberries.
Very pleasant. Great chewy, full-bodied mouthful of concentrated blackberry and plum fruit,
dusty tannins and delicate but structural acidity. Well-balanced and quite classy. Lovely, rich
blackbarry and dark chocolate finish of good length. Big, concentrated and classy. Very
impressed! (03-01)
Burlwood Cellars, Cabernet Sauvignon, California 1998
- Date: 26 Feb '00
- Rating: 80
- Notes: Dark pink/purple colour , somewhat "cheap" looking. Open black fruit on the nose
with a strong and interesting herbaceous quality. Unusual but pleasant. After opening for an
hour or so in a decanter, it showed a concentrated, if simplistic palate with good balance,
evident and integrated tannins, and red fruits and herbs. Pleasant and rich everyday wine.
Reminded me very much of a Zinfandel! (03-04)
