The motion calling for a moratorium on skytrain construction west of Commercial Drive until there is an environmental assessment and meaningful public consultation on the long terms transit options for Vancouver is on the agenda of the City's Standing Committee on Planning and the Environment for Thursday, February 15.
The meeting starts at 2:00 p.m.. It is agenda item 8.
It is quite likely that they will not get to the moratorium motion before 3:00 as they are said to have a heavy agenda that day.
The members of council need to hear from the many community groups and individuals who oppose this wasteful skytrain extension and support environmentally sensible and affordable public transit. Even if you can't get there until later in the afternoon, call or email the city clerk's office and ask to speak. If there are enough presenters it is likely to go past 5.
Requests to speak should be made by 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday February 14th, but if need be you can sign up on the day itself.
Call Diane Clarmont, who works with the City Clerks Office, at 871-6371 - if you get her voicemail, tell her you want to speak on the Moratorium motion and leave your address (including postal code) and a daytime phone number. The email address is [email protected]. If you are speaking on behalf of a group provide the name of the group. It would be really great to be able to keep track of how many people, and which groups, are coming to speak. So, could you please cc your emails to [email protected]/
