What is the topic sentence?
The topic sentence is the first sentence in a paragraph.

What does it do?
It introduces the main idea of the paragraph.

How do I write one?
Summarize the main idea of your paragraph. Indicate to the reader what your paragraph will be about

Example:

There is an important reason why Brazil is a good Country . First, Brazil has an excellent sports system. All Brazilians have access to it. Second, it is so common that boys and girls both practice this sport, they have such a high standard in soccer that they have fanatics all over they go.

  Supporting Details

 What are supporting sentences?
They come after the topic sentence, making up the body of a paragraph.

What do they do?
They give details to develop and support the main idea of the paragraph.

How do I write them?
You should give supporting facts, details, and examples.

Example: There is an important reason why Brazil is a good Country . First, Brazil has an excellent sports system. All Brazilians have access to it. Second, it is so common that boys and girls both practice this sport, they have such a high standard in soccer that they have fanatics all over they go.

 Closing Sentence

 What is the closing sentence?
The closing sentence is the last sentence in a paragraph.

What does it do?
It restates the main idea of your paragraph.

How do I write one?
Restate the main idea of the paragraph using different words.

Example: There is an important reason why Brazil is a good Country . First, Brazil has an excellent sports system. All Brazilians have access to it. Second, it is so common that boys and girls both practice this sport, they have such a high standard in soccer that they have fanatics all over they go as a result the stadium always full with people when Brazil plays.

Definition

 

When writing a definition paragraph, you take a thing or an idea and explain what it is.

Example:

Write a paragraph giving the definition of  love.

The following words can help you to write a good definition paragraph:

Example:

Love express things like kindness, comprehension, peace, faithfulness and happiness..

When writing a classification paragraph, you group things or ideas into specific categories.

Description

In a compare and contrast paragraph, you write about the similarities and differences between two or more people, places, things, or ideas.

Writing Practice Exercise #1

General Instructions: Please read the instructions for each part of the exercise. 

(a)   Write one topic sentence for each of the following topics: 

I don’t know where is your hometown

I would like to travel to a wonderfull country like Trinidad

Friendship is important for those that believe in true love and kindness

(b)  Choose one of the above topics and write ONE complete paragraph about it. You should use a good topic sentence and adequately detailed supporting sentences. You do not have to include a concluding sentence if you do not wish to do so.

 

Travel is  wonderfull and relaxing, every year I wait for a chance to go to a country with beautifull scene,  it’s important for me to visit other places and cultures because I learn to appreciate the little things of this life, people travels for different reasons like: business, entertainment, vacation, symposium and others…

(e) One Constract paragraph with seven or more sentences.

 

(a) One Definition paragraph of at least seven sentences. 

  A paragraph is a self-contained unit of a discourse in writing dealing with a particular point or idea, or the words of an author. The start of a paragraph is indicated by beginning on a new line and ending without running to the next passage. Sometimes the first line is indented, and sometimes it is indented without beginning a new line. At various times the beginning of a paragraph has been indicated by the pilcrow mark:¶.

  (b) One Classification paragraph with seven or more sentences.

 In non-fiction material, a paragraph starts with the main point, followed by sentences with supporting details. The non-fiction paragraph goes from the general to the specific to advance an argument or point of view. Each paragraph builds on what came before and lays the ground for what comes next. Paragraphs generally range two to eight sentences all combined in a single paragraphed statement.

 In prose fiction and Literary writing paragraph structure is more abstract, depending on the writer's technique and the action of the narrative. Facts and parts of the narrative are ordered to achieve poignancy and support rhetorical devices. A paragraph in prose fiction can start with a single detail and enlarge the picture with successive details. The point of a prose paragraph can occur in the middle, near the end, or in the final sentence

 (c) One Description paragraph with seven or more sentences.

 A description consists of an enumeration of the quantitative and qualitative parameters which seek to provide a definition of some thing, such as what that thing looks like, sounds like, or feels like, distinguishing one state from another and general characteristics commonly noticed which in popular culture define or distinguish something. To describe a paragraph it’s necessary to remember the beginnings, endings, context, perspective, similarities, differences and, when applied, interpretation

  (d)One Comparison paragraph with seven or more sentences

 In grammar, the comparative is the form of an adjective or adverb which denotes the degree or grade by which a person, thing, or other entity has a property or quality greater or less in extent than that of another.

The paragraph studies the similarities and differences using words that helps to determine it like, is similar to, the other hand, both, also, and words that connect one sentence with another like however and others, this resources can classify any story, sentence or paragraph.

 (e) One Constract paragraph with seven or more sentences:

 Contrast is the dissimilarity or difference between things. Another meaning for contrast is in the context of colour. This can be the opposition of items that are compared or the act of distinguishing via differences comparison. The act of linguistics contrast is the act of expressing the distinctions between words, contrast can be countable, for example Venezuela is one of the countries that have more differences with Europe and uncountable contrasts can be: colour blue is different from the green.
