Chapter 8

Several weeks after Dameon had discovered Tyler was his sisters killer, he sat in court ready to testify against his partner.  Kevin had done some tests on the blood in Tylers car and it had matched Karas.  Behind Dameon sat Abigail and Michael.  They were glad their daughters murderer had been caught but were extremely distraught at it having been someone they had trusted.  There is no greater evil than that of betrayal.  Dameon took a deep breath as the doors to the courtroom opened and Tyler walked in in handcuffs.  He took a seat and the judge began.

The hearing went rather slowly at first.  That is until Tyler was called to the stand.  Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you God? the bailiff asked.  I do, Tyler responded as he removed his right hand from the large bible.  The usual questions were asked but when it came time for the big question, the one that determined his sentence, his answer shocked Dameon.  Did you kill Kara Redding?  Yes.  Yes I did kill Kara, Tyler admitted.  He locked eyes with Dameon.  Dameon, Im sorry.  I know you cant forgive me for what Ive done and I know that I deserve to be sentenced to jail for my crime so I admit what Ive done, he finished.

I sentence you, Mr. Tyler Morganton, to live in prison for first degree murder of Kara Redding, the judge said.  Court is adjourned, she finished.  The bailiff rose and led Tyler out of the room.  After he had left, Dameon turned to face his parents.  Im so sorry sweetheart, Abigail said to her remaining child.  Im sorry too mom, Dameon said back.

Dameon hugged his parents and grabbed his coat.  He had one last thing to do before he would feel happy again.  He hopped into his car and drove to the graveyard where Kara was buried.  He slowly stepping into the hallowed place and moved the gravesite.  I love you Kara.  You know that.  I found who killed you.  Im sure you put up one hell of fight with that jerk.  I just wanted to say that you can rest in peace now.  And so can I, Dameon whispered to the gravestone.  A slight breeze blew around him, a warm breeze.  Dameon smiled both inwardly and outwardly.  He was free.  He blew Karas grave a kiss and then walked away slowly, enjoying the fresh air.
