When X gets to St. Theresa Hospital he sees a strange sight.
"Death to all reploids!" Someone yells from the mob outside the hospital.
"They're responsible for the meltdown last year!" Another one yells.
"What's going on here?" X asks a nurse.
"I don't know," he answers. "It looks like some kind of Bio-Guardian protest. Who's this?"
"This is Dr. Wily, he needs immediate medical attention."
"We'll get on it right away. You can sit in the waiting room if you like."
Instead, X immediately takes off, trying to find Infinity. He soon discovers that Infinity has recruited some other reploids to help him. X also discovers that somehow Infinity was able to upgrade his mercenaries to the same level as the Hyper enhancements. X, deciding that the other mavericks attacking the city can do more damage than Infinity hiding out, deals with the mercenaries first.
After dealing with some of the mavericks X gets an emergency call from the hospital he left Wily at. When he arrives nothing's left but a fiery ruin. "What happened here!?" X screams.
"After you left," the same nurse who talked to him earlier starts, "Dr. Light came to check on his friend. The Bio-Guardians decided that since both of the men who created reploids were in the same place, that place should be destroyed."
"I'm scanning for life signs in the rubble," X announces. After a few seconds of scanning, "nothing. You're all that's left."
"I see, Are you okay?" the nurse asks.
"Better then those protesters when I find them," X warns teleporting off.
"X!? Alia asks in disbelief, "you're back!!!" she yells giving him a big hug.
"Yeah," X begins uncomfortably, "but this isn't exactly the response I was expecting."
"What?" she begins, "Oh! Sorry," she apologizes letting go.
"I need your help."
"Sure, what do you need?"
"Find out where those Bio-Guardian bastar...," X stops himself mid word, "people are hiding. Report to me when you do. I still need to deal with Infinity," X finishes as he teleports out.
"Wait! Who's Infinity?"
X then goes on to deal with the remaining mercenaries. When all eight mavericks have been dealt with, X goes on to Infinity's hidden headquarters. After a while of dealing with Infinity's personal guards, X receives a message from Alia.
"X!" She begins, "I've found the Bio-Guardian's headquarters."
�Good work,� X acknowledges, �can you patch into their com systems?�
�Already did.�
X smiles to himself before continuing: �I want you to send me a message through their com system, telling me where I am. I want them to think you accidentally sent it on the wrong frequency. Can you do that?�
"You make it sound like that's hard."
"Fine, do it while I set a trap for them."
After this conversation, X continues his search for Infinity. X finally finds him in what appears to be a throne room. "A throne room?" X asks in disbelief. "Don't you think that�s a little egotistical?"
"Hardly!� Infinity answers from his throne, �I was wondering what took you so long, then I saw the news. I'm sorry brother. These Bio-Guardians have made two very powerful enemies today."
"Two?" X counters.
"Of course, you and me. I wonder which of us will have the honor of destroying them."
"Me too," X answers mysteriously. �Now, how do you want to do this? Do you just surrender now, or do we fight and damage this building. Personally I'm getting a little tired of property damage in the name of justice."
Infinity starts laughing, "surrender!? You must be joking!" He then hits a button on his throne and two guards run in. "After all, I've got superior numbers."
"Maybe," X starts, "but unless I miss my timing, that advantage is about to go out the window." At that moment the building is rocked by an explosion.
"What the hell was that!?" Infinity demands. Just then he receives a message from one of his subordinates.
"Sire! The Bio-Guardians are attacking us!" Infinity absorbs this information.
"Attention all personnel," Infinity orders over the intercom, "we are under attack. Take arms and defend the building." He then turns off the intercom, "that goes for the two of you as well." The two guards salute and then leave X alone with Infinity. "Well played brother, it�s just the two of us."
"I know, 'brother'. You see, I've been studying all the information about the attacks you and Nega Man orchestrated, and I found a lot of patterns. One of them was this: there has always been a backup plan for my arrival. Because of this I decided to allow the Bio-Guardians to know the location of your headquarters. Neither of us may come out alive, but I figured it was the most sure method of taking you out."
"VERY well done X!" Infinity congratulates. "You truly ARE worthy to be our brother. I only wish Nega Man was alive to see what you've become. I know he'd be just as proud as I am. You want to destroy me, fine. I wouldn't be able to stop you even if I wanted to."
With that the two immediately began battle. Infinity has the advantages of surprise and familiar terrain, but X has the advantage of years of combat experience. In the end, Infinity never had a chance. Even though the building is starting to collapse, X picks up what used to be Infinity's head and looks it in the eyes. "Good bye, brother."
