OBITUARY
I believe many of you will remember this email that Selva sent to his friends almost exactly a year ago. Some of us thought it'd be special to share it on this website because his words capture the spirit of the person we'll always remember him to be.....

I have been approaching midlife for several years now; so naturally, it
only follows that I have been approaching midlife crisis as well. Last year, midlife crisis and I collided head-on.

So after 8 1/2  bittersweet years in WestLB I have now decided to go for
the big change. The time has come to roll the dice.
Why did I do it?

To paraphrase the ending in Trainspotting :
"I could offer a million answers, all false. The truth is that I've
been a sloth, but that's going to change, I'm going to change.
This is the last of this sort of thing. I'm cleaning up and I'm
moving on, going straight and choosing life. I'm looking forward to
it already."

So it will be a new job,  uncertainty, restless experimentation,
new theories of  the dismal science, new friends (who will not be
defined by alcohol), edgy east-end bars, the ring cycle in Bayreuth, places less travelled, retreats from society, understanding heterotopias, and yes, speed dating (couldn't help but slip that in).

It will be a journey and a half but rest assured that I will be
laughing all the way to that last  nursing home bingo game.
Not quite sure what I will do with this time off for now; however
mountains and that fiery flamenco dancer with furrowed brow beckon.

For those of you that might be tempted,
I can be reached on me old mobile number  +44 (0) 7930 471140 or at

Don't you all rush to it now.
Good luck and may the Force be with you always,
Selva Neelakandan
