2. Date of Meeting:  May 10, 2000

 

3.  Number of Participants:  30 present

 

4.  Facilitator:  Phillip S. Field, United Way staff

 

5. Boundaries of Neighborhood:  First Ave. on east, Tennessee on north, Fulton Ave.

                                                         on the west, Lloyd Expressway on south.

 

6. Residents’ Description of their Neighborhood:

 

This portion was mistakenly combined with the visioning exercise. However, people did point out that progress has been made in some areas (e.g. getting Fulton Park, saving the fire station on Franklin Avenue, changing speed limit on First Avenue, etc.)

 

7.  Descriptions of “Ideal Neighborhood”:

 

The visioning here consisted of people envisioning the neighborhood five years hence. Mention was made that STAR neighborhood is like two separate neighborhoods, with Columbia Street being the dividing line.

 

8. Agreed-Upon Goals:

 

 

1.      Preservation of neighborhood character (30 votes)

2.      Improvement of public space (29 votes)

3.      Elimination of nuisance (28 votes)

 

4.      More cooperation between the City and STAR (27 votes)

5.      Improve public safety (22 votes)

6.      Increased recognition for neighborhoods (18)

7.      Sensitive and effective traffic planning (11)

 

(Participants were given 7 votes each)

 

 

9.  Goals, Objective and Responsibilities:

 

Goal #1:  PRESERVATION OF NEIGHBORHOOD CHARACTER

 

     Neighborhood Objectives:

 

Ø      Neighborhood has a lot to say about this;

Ø      Cooperation between STAR and the City

 

 

Business or Institutions in STAR:

 

St. Anthony Church is a great asset to the neighborhood.

 

 

Goal #2:  IMPROVEMENT OF PUBLIC SPACE

 

     Neighborhood Objective:

 

Ø      Neighbors speak out on issues of public space

 

    City Objectives:

 

Ø      Cooperation between the City and neighborhood
