5.  Boundaries of Neighborhood:  Pollack, Vann, Riverside and Weinbach

 

6. Residents’ Description of their Neighborhood:

 

Ø      Excellent elementary school

Ø      Beauty shop

Ø      Dentist office

Ø      Access to a wide range of stores of “medium quality”

Ø      Three active churches

Ø      One bar and one liquor store

Ø      On city bus route

Ø      Strong neighborhood association

Ø      Pride in property ownership (90% homeowners)

Ø      Play ground

Ø      Community meeting facilities

Ø      Association newsletter

Ø      Sidewalks and curbing

Ø      Note:  Many of the assets are outside the immediate neighborhood but access to them is excellent.

 

7.  Descriptions of “Ideal Neighborhood”:

 

Ø      Wider streets and better paved

Ø      Rental properties will be kept u[p

Ø      Safe neighborhood and drug free

Ø      Expanded storm sewers

Ø      Expanded bus service

Ø      Better communication with city government

Ø      Increased quality in shopping alternatives

Ø      Easements kept free of debris

Ø      Wider participation in the neighbor association

Ø      Quieter neighbor with less noise from animals, cars, music, etc.

Ø      Better traffic control (currently lots of speeders)

9. Goals, Objectives and Responsibilities:

 

Goal #1:  STREETS, CURBS, SIDEWALKS, EASEMENTS

 

     Neighborhood Objectives:

 

Ø      Association will get more people involved in preparing a neighborhood plan

Ø      Association and appropriate city department will work together to solve the problem.

 

    City Objectives:

 

Ø      City will be contacted and be presented with the plan.

 

Goal #2:  BETTER COMMUNICATION WITH CITY GOVERNMENT

 

     Neighborhood Objective:

 

Ø      Association will work to become stronger

Ø      Contact the mayor’s office using the ‘HOTLINE’ when necessary

Ø      Continue to strengthen the relationship with ward councilman

 

 

Goal #3:  WIDER PARTICIPATION IN THE ASSOCIATION

 

     Neighborhood Objectives:

 

Ø      Continue with the “Newsletter” and increase circulation

Ø      Increase personal contact with the neighbors

Ø      Increase community events (ie picnics and other gatherings to increase neighborhood contacts and create cooperative interest

 

Goal #4:  SAFER, QUIETER, DRUG FREE NEIGHBORHOOD

 

    Neighborhood Objectives:

 

Ø      Monitor and report offences to the proper authorities

Ø      Increase the cooperation with the sector police

Ø      Work with the city to increase the street lighting

 

   Other Resources:

 

Ø      Association wants someone to help write grants to improve the neighborhood.

Ø      Association would like to know how you get media response to cover activities.
