 Washington Ave., Kentucky Ave., Covert Ave., Hwy 41

 

6.  Residents’ Description of their Neighborhood:

 

Ø      Residents vary in age and race 

Ø      Neighbors help and watch out for each other

Ø      Beautiful  Akin Park

Ø      Beautiful trees, flowers and plants

Ø      Different style homes

Ø      Pride is shown in maintaining the yards and homes

Ø      Stately character 

 

7.  Descriptions of “Ideal Neighborhood”:

 

Ø      Drug house ordinance to deal with irresponsible landlords (those who time after time rent to drug dealers)

Ø      No slum landlords

Ø      Judges that get drug deals off the street and keep them off

Ø      Partnering between Parks Department and neighbors

Ø      Neighborhood based police stations

Ø      Police officers walking the beat

Ø      More protection

Ø      All dogs on leashes

Ø      Healthy and well maintained trees

Ø      New trees

Ø      Youth activities

Ø      A place for kids to go on weekends

Ø      The small businesses prospering

Ø      Cleaner alleys

Ø      Weed control

Ø      No abandoned vehicles.

Each person received 3 votes each.  All of them went on Drug Free Zone.  They believe that the rest of the goals have to be accomplished to get the Drug Free Zone accomplished.

Goal #1:  DRUG FREE ZONE

 

     Neighborhood Objectives:

 

Ø      Become involved

Ø      Promote city park youth recreation

Ø      Contact Parks Department

Ø      Pray

Ø      Petition for drug house ordinance

Ø      Petition for stronger, positive neighborhood police presence

 

     Neighborhood Institutions Objectives:

 

Ø      Churches provide youth activities

Ø      Communicate with church concerning church and neighborhood programs

Ø      Offer space for neighborhood police station

Ø      Help neighbors present police station need to city

           

     City Objectives:

                 

Ø      Parks Department recreation program

Ø      Empty drug houses

Ø      Deal with landlords who don’t rent responsibly

Ø      Offer space for local police station

Ø      More police presence

Ø      Provide statistics of crime since police station has been in Goosetown
