GENESIS OF THE PHILIPPINE MOO DUK KWAN

In the early 1950's, when only native art Arnis/Eskrima and some unrefined techniques in Jujitsu and Judo were known in the country, a young man and an outstanding protege of an illustrious Arnis Master Inge Javelona established the first "Formal" Martial Arts School in Bacolod City. This Man is Casimiro "Chingi" Grandeza and the name of the school was White Kimono Club.

The Original Batch of students were composed of selected individuals, among them were: Marciano Torres, Nene Amoyon, Goyo Agolo-os, Tan brothers and a very young boy named Jojo Grandeza (who became the first President of Junior White Kimono Club not through election or appointment but through Combat Competition).

During the early years of the White Kimono Club, it concentrated on concentrated on teaching well-researched combat judo techniques which made it or not very popular but also legendary in Negros. Its popularity did not only catch the attention of most martial arts illuminates in the country but also caught the attention of the All Japan Karate Do Association (under Koichi Kondo) which the White Kimono Club Affiliated in 1958 and learned its first formal Karate Lessons.

In the early 60's, the White Kimono Club through the Karate Brotherhood of the Philippines was already demonstrating exemplary techniques, courage and discipline and even produced an Asian Heavyweight Champion (Jimmy Magbanua). Because of this positive image that the White Kimono students projected, Grandmaster Hwang Kee of Moo Duk Kwan became curious to know about the instructor and the White Kimono Club. Henceforth, communications and coordination started. And since the techniques, principles and concepts of Moo Duk Kwan were much in a higher plain in terms of mental, spiritual and physical development of an individual aside from being consistent with the objectives of the White Kimono Club. Then later decided to formally affiliate with the Moo Duk Kwan. Thus, in 1966, the Philippine Moo Duk Kwan was born.
