What is VPN ?

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network.

A VPN is a private connection between two machines or networks over a shared or public network.

VPN technology lets an organization securely extend its network services over the Internet to remote users, branch offices, and partner companies.

It is a group of two or more computer systems that communicate privately over a public network (i.e., the Internet) Using a technique know as "tunneling," a VPN simulates leasing lines or other point-to-point connections across a public routed network. This tunnel has secure protocols to create a safe path for corporate data to travel inside of the publicly shared network.

Data in a VPN tunnel remains private because it is encrypted.
