Moses is a direct desc. of William Bradford of the Mayflower and Govenor
of Plymounth. Doug and
I have lots of good info to share with others who are doing Bradford
research. This Mr. Bradford was married to Rebecca Briggs, as well as one
other women, whose name we have not yet run onto.
We have a part of an obituary for Moses, that was taken from a Ottawa
Franklin Co Kansas. He is buried in the Lynden Cemetery. The upper corner
of the obit is missing, so some of the information is also.
Here is what we have.
Moses Bradford
The subject of this sketch was born in Hocking Co Ohio, Jan. 13, 1818. He
came from a sturdy colonial stock, tracing his ancestry back of Govenor
Bradford of early colonia days. He came into this world just after our
second war with England and in the midst of one of the greatest panics
this country ever saw. During his life, the country passed through three
wars - Civil, mexican, and Spanish American; also through four several
panics those of 1837, 1873, and 1907. His was at the time of his birth a
frontier state, now the nation has fifty states and territories and
islands of the sea, and the nation which was then just in its infancy has
now become the greatest twentieth century civilization. This shows
somethings of what the expanse of his life has covered.
In early life he was married to Miss Rebekah Briggs, and to (here is
where the corner is torn off - there are about 8 lines missing)
during the last days his constant prayer was "Dear Jesus, take me home".
The funeral was held Thurs. morning at Ten o'clock in the Baptist Church
conducted by his pastor, Rev. Robt. W. Shjaw of Ottawa, assisted by the
other ministers of the city, Rev. I.R. Prugh, Rev. J.J. Skinner and Rev.
W. C. Adair. He was laid to rest in the Lyndon cemetery. Thus a
remarkable life has been taken away. Honest, industrious, cheerful,
respected and loved his was a noble heritage, a full life, a career
marked by characteristics that all may pause a moment and learn a usefull
life lesson from a usefull life. "He being dead, yet speaketh".
Card of thanks
We desire to thank the friends and neighbors for their kind assistance
during the sickness and death of our beloved husband and father and for
the beautiful floral offerings.
Mrs. M. Bradford and family.
This Moses Bradfords parents were Moses Bradford and Anna Ward. I have
good documentation for most of the generations going back to Govenor
Bradford.
