Disabling
the Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs)
Disable
the DRLs and the automatic night time lights
1. Open your glove box, pull out the fuse box cover.
2. Open up your manual and locate the DRL fuse. It should
be in the lower left corner of the fuse box.
3. Pull this fuse and put it somewhere safe (glove box)
4. Thats it, no more DRLs or automatic night time lights
1. Open the drivers side door. Locate the
panel access cover on the side of the dash. Grab a flat bladed
screw driver and pop this out.
2. Look for a black "heat sink" like object. It
is metal and is silver on the side facing the rear of the car.
Attached to this is a blue connector with 2 wires on it. Look for the clip
on the passenger side of the
connector.
3. Insert your flat bladed screw driver into this
clip, going up from below the dash. Grab the connector with
your left hand by reaching through the access panel. Twist your screw driver
to release the clip
(don't break it) and pull on the connector. It will take a lot of wiggling
but it should come off.
4. Thats it, your done, tuck that connector into
one of the wiring harnesses so that you don't get a rattle,
and away you go.
1. Pick up a 180 Degree thermostat from Grand
Prix Net Store
2. Let your car sit for a few hours. You
want it completely cool. Everything cold to the touch.
3. Remove the S/C cover. This is done by
taking off the the nut on top, and then twisting the oil fill to the
left. Pull it out remove the cover, and replace the oil fill so you don't
get stuff in there.
4. On the drivers side of the car there is
a hose that runs from the radiator into the block. This is the one
you want. Grab a pair of pliers, squeeze the hose clamp (the one nearest
the block) down so it opens
up. Then just wiggle the hose back and forth until it gets loose. Be careful
because there is fluid in there.
5. After the hose is loose, just put it up
against the engine mount to keep it from draining, and out of the
way.
6. Get a socket and remove the two bolts
holding the 90 degree bend in.
7. Pull out the bend carefully. The old thermostat
should be attached. Note the orientation of the rubber
ring. Carefully remove the old thermostat by gripping the end, and pulling
up on one side.
8. Place the rubber ring on your new thermostat.
Make sure its on the same way as it was on the old one.
9. If yours is like mine the rubber ring
will have come off of the 90 degree bend. That's ok, simply place
the new thermostat with the rubber ring in place back into the hole in
the block.
10. Carefully place the 90 degree bend back on the block
and thread in the two bolts. Be careful because
these cross thread easily.
11. Tighten these bolts down pretty good. Be careful
not to strip them though. Then reattach your hose.
12. After removing all the loose tools, start up the
car. Check for leaks as it idles. Then, let it warm up to
operating temperature. Grab a wrench and carefully open the little brass
nipple that is on top of the
90 degree bend. Make sure you are just turning the top. This allows any
air to escape the system.
13. Make sure everything looks good. Take the car for
a short drive. Then check for leaks again. If there
are none your all done! You should see 15-20 degree cooler tempatures in
the operating range now.
And cool is good.
1. Purchase the color you want for your GP from
the Grand Prix Net Store for my example I choose
Red
2. Clean, clean, clean. Wash your car, get that lower
fascia really good. Then when you get home, take
some rubbing alcohol and rub it in each of the letters, then let it dry.
3. Put on some old clothes and get a padded mat,
because you need to be on the ground. The easiest
way to do this is lying flat on your back looking up at the letters. Side
ways is a bit hard.
4. Check the orientation of the letter before you
put it on. The O and N can go on two ways, so make sure
you have them right.
5. Peel and stick. That's all there is, apply the
middle of the sticker first, and work your way out, smoothing
out any air bubbles you might have.
6. Run over every letter a few times, pushing hard,
getting all the air out. Now, your done. Just don't wash it
for a day or two, and be carefull with the high pressure washers.
7. Step back and admire your work. It really is
a reach out and grab you kind of look. Enjoy it, and be proud
knowing that your garnering the attention of every car you pass now
1. Purchase the color you want for your GP
from the Grand Prix Net Store for my example I choose
Red (to match the car)
2. Clean, clean, clean. Wash your car, get that
badge really good. Then when you get home, take some
rubbing alcohol and rub it in each of the letters, then let it dry.
3. Put on some old clothes and get a padded mat,
because you need to be on the ground. The easiest
way to do this is sitting legs under the car. Side ways is a bit hard.
4. Seperate the G T P into individual pieces, its
much easier then trying to do it whole.
5. Peel and stick. That's all there is, apply the
middle of the sticker first, and work your way out, smoothing
out any air bubbles you might have. And remember, these stretch a bit,
so to pull out to hard.
6. Run over every letter a few times, pushing hard,
getting all the air out. Now, your done. Just don't wash it
for a day or two, and be carefull with the high pressure washers.
7. Step back and admire your work.
1.
Figure out what badges you want for your car. For this Example, lets use
the Chrome Grand
(GM part #10246503), Chrome Prix (#10246504), and the Buick Riviera Chrome
Supercharged Badge
(buick part #25602037). We will be removing the old, dull, gray Grand Prix,
replacing it in a new
location with the new chrome Grand Prix, and adding the chrome Supercharged
badge
2.
Clean, your car off, so your not putting dirt under your badges.
3.
Get some thick, strong, waxed dental floss (any flavor, although my car
prefers mint). Pull out a good 3
feet of this stuff and wrap the ends around your hands. Imagine flossing
between the badge and car and
you'll know what I mean.
4.
Slip the dental floss behind the badge and start to pull, sliding it up
and down as you pull across behind
the badge. They are stuck on pretty tight so you have to work at this.
Heating the badge up some might
help.
5.
OK, now you have that old badge off, and you have leftovers. Get the car
cool, and roll that left over stuff
off with your fingers. You may have to pull on it some to, but it breaks,
so rolling works best.
6.
Run to the nearest garden hose, high pressure washer, fire hydrant (the
latter is not recommend do to
city officials becoming upset) and spray off the area where the badge was,
you're trying to remove any
left over gunk.
7.
Carefully measure the badge to find the center point. I used the trunk
key hole as a reference, and with
the proper spacing, it turns out that the D in Grand lines up just underneath
it. Now, place with badges
on the car (leave the backing on!!!)and make sure everything looks good.
8.
Clean off the area where you are going to apply the badge with rubbing
alcohol. Make sure its spotless.
9.
Carefully peel the backing off of one of the badges. Then holding by the
ends, slowly place it on your car.
You might want someone else out there to check and see if its level. After
you've set it on gently, start
pushing hard, from the middle, working your way out. Try to set it well,
you don't want to lose your $7
badge! Run your hand over it several times applying, strong, direct pressure
to seat the tape. Now, take
the next badge and repeat. Watching for level, and center.
10. Step
back and enjoy. Your car now screams Grand Prix Supercharged! Chrome won't
get you home,
but it sure looks good when you get there
1.
Pick up a set of GTS Sport Guards. I got mine from the Grand Prix Net Store
2.
Clean your car off. Them use the enclosed cleaning pad to wipe down your
door frame.
3.
Now, get a friend/neighbor/stranger off the street, because its much easier
to do this with another set of
hands. Test fit the gaurds, to see how they go on, check your alignment
and get a good feel for the
placement.
4.
Carefully fold back the adhesive at the end by the sire mirror. If you
don't do it now, its really hard later.
Also fold back the adhesive at the other end about 2 inches. You want to
fold it so it sticks up towards the
top, a 45 degree angle works best.
5.
Have your "helper" hold the guard at the proper place by the mirror, but
don't put it on yet! Start from the
other end, carefully press the guard against the frame. Then slowly pull
off the backing while pressing the
guard onto the frame. Now, be carefully because around the middle of the
curve, you might have to
press it up or down a bit, so watch this.
6.
Slowly move along the guard removing the backing and pressing it firmly
onto the frame. Align it with the
top edge of the black part of the frame.
7.
That's it, you're done, now just run over it a few times, pressing hard
to make sure its seated
