Shinigami's Honor

Disclaimer: Despite pleading, begging, bribing, threatening, whining and throwing tantrums, I do not, alas, own Gundam Wing or any of it's characters.
Whoever they do belong to, are probably very rich and most likely in Japan (I think Sunrise, Sostsu, and Bandai... prolly some others too).
I am poor. I spent all my money on anime. Please don't sue!

Warnings: It gets a little hot, but nothing real bad.

Pairings: 2xH

Description: Romance, Angst

Hilde put the plates and glasses in the sink with a light clatter. Duo had orchestrated this wonderfully romantic evening (although Hilde had suspicions that Quatre had had a hand in the planning), the least she could do was clean the dishes. She ran the water over her fingers waiting for it to get hot when a pair of warm arms slipped around her waist and she felt a chin on her shoulder. She blushed at the feel of his cheek against hers and smiled slightly. She still had no idea how this amazing guy had managed to get stuck with her. "C'mon babe," Hilde's face flushed anew at her pet name. "You don't think I'm gonna let you waste the evening getting dishwater hands when I just spent the past three hours wining and dining you like I did? Nuh-uh. No way. 'Tonight you're mine.'" Duo whispered, quoting an archaic song he seemed to be a fan of.

"Duo, I don't deserve you. . ." Hilde smiled.

"Hey, that's my line." Duo nudged her jaw with his nose, reducing Hilde to a fit of giggles. By now she had finished filling the sink with hot water, and, valiantly straining to resist Duo's charm, proceeded to add soap. "Don't you have to let it soak? We can leave it. . .I promise they're not going anywhere," Duo said with such a serious look on his face Hilde couldn't help but laugh.

"Don't make me regret teaching you how to do the dishes," She said in mock reprimand, wagging her finger. With a snort, his strong arms hooked more firmly around her slender waist and hoisted her easily off her feet, carrying her into the living room.

"Duo! Put me down!" Duo shrugged.

"If you say so. . .." Duo then dropped her unceremoniously onto the sofa and hovered above her un-composed posture, one arm still entwined around her waist while he supported his weight with the other. Duo looked into her beautiful dark eyes and felt his love for her rising in his chest. This girl knew about his past...all the terrible things he had done, all the people he had killed. . .. And she still loved him. He was amazed every day he woke up and found her downstairs making breakfast. It was like he was constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. He was waiting for the day she would wake up and finally see him as the horrible thing that he saw himself as and leave. But it never came. And knowing that she thought of him as perfect. . .made him want to be perfect. If for no other reason, then for her. She loved him, and he'd be damned if he was going to ever let her down. He wanted more than anything to show her how much she meant to him.

They had been living together since the end of the Eve Wars a full year and a half ago, but they had never made love. . .Duo had always been waiting for a time when he felt worthy of her acceptance. Granted, she had never made a move to press him to the next level, but she'd never exactly encouraged his stopping either. Tonight he was ready to truly be intimate with her.

He pressed his lips against hers tentatively, waiting for her response to give him the green light. Her eyes drifted closed and she returned his kiss warmly. Duo's mouth became more demanding and sought hers hungrily, as if he would die if he couldn't consume her entirely. Her hands glided up over his chest and came to rest on his shoulders. Duo's hand left her abdomen and held her leg behind her knee, slowly moving northward and pushing the fabric of her skirt up her thigh.

When Hilde felt his hand on the inside of her thigh she flinched inwardly and gently but firmly pressed her hands against his shoulders, signaling for him to stop. Duo took the hint and slowly broke the kiss.

Hilde moved to get up and Duo quickly stood and pulled her up. Hilde averted her eyes and almost inaudibly whispered, "Sorry. . .."

Duo took her into his embrace and whispered, "S'ok. . .. We don't have to if you don't want to." Hilde rested her head on his shoulder and sighed.

"It's just. . .. Things are perfect the way they are. . .. We don't need to do it to have a relationship. . .I like what we have now. . .."

"You never have to explain yourself. . .. If you don't want to, I'll be a saint." Duo raised his right hand, "Shinigami's honor." Hilde closed her eyes and tried to block out the memories that had flooded back into her consciousness at his touch. Duo's not like that, she reminded herself, he would never hurt me.
