USA Freestyle/Greco School Boy Duals Information Sheet
I am attempting to ascertain the interest in sending a team to the USA Schoolboy Duals in Yorktown, Indiana. The event is scheduled for June 5-8, 2003. Entry fee is $450 per team per style. If we send one team the entry costs will be $900 to participate in both styles. Currently Huskerland Wrestling is considering paying the entry fees. There are 18 weight classes and teams may consist of 25 wrestlers.
Weight Classes: ((there is a 3 lbs. weight allowance)).
70-75-80-85-90-95-100-105-110-115-120-125-130-140-150-160-190-220
The tournament will accept 18 Freestyle and 14 Greco teams. Team registrations will be received on a first come-first serve bases. I would to solicit 4 coaches and 4 support staff personnel to accompany the team. Pat Garcia of the Millard South wrestling club has volunteered to assume the Head Coaching duties for this event. In addition to the coaches and support staff, each team is required to supply 1 USA sanctioned mat official. This totals 34 team personnel for the trip. All wrestlers and coaches must be USAW members and all coaches need to be at least Copper certified to coach at matside.
Wrestlers are required to have both a blue & red singlet. National Team uniform packages will be available for the selected wresters. The uniform package includes 1-red singlet, 1-blue singlet, 1-t-shirt,1- pair of shorts; an optional warm-up jacket is available through Sunflower wrestling for $40. The costs for the regular clothing package is $107; with the warm up the costs is $147. The clothing orders will be available at the State Tournament in Kearney.
Transportation & lodging:
The driving time from Columbus, Nebraska to Yorktown Indiana is 13 hrs. The one-way mileage is 750 miles. I would suggest 3-15 passenger vans to accommodate the wrestlers, coaches and support staff. If the fees and mileage are waived on the vans, the only costs would be fuel, insurance, and parking. The following is an estimate of the transportation costs. Phil Spady Chysler Plymouth Dodge has supported our efforts in the past by providing transportation, I would anticipate his continued support.
(1) 3 Vans @ $10 insurance per day for 6 days = $180
(2) Event Parking for 3 vehicles @ $6.00 a day for 5 days = $90
(3) Mileage: 1500 roundtrip miles x 3 vehicles = 4500 miles.
Fuel consumption estimated at 12 miles per gallon = 4500/12 = 375 gallons of fuel
Fuel costs estimated at $1.80 per gallon x 100 gallons = $675
Total Transportation Costs = $945
Lodging to accommodate 34 wrestlers & staff will require 9 rooms. Room assignments will consist of 1 adult staff member and 3 wrestlers per room. I have reserved a block of rooms at the Super 8 Motel in Muncie, Indiana with arrival on June 5 and departure on June 8. The average cost of the room is $60 per night w/tax. Continental breakfast is provided. The motel is located at 3601 W. Foxridge Lane, Muncie, Indiana. The phone number is 765-286-4333. The hotel is located 10 minutes from the venue.
(1) 9 rooms x 3 nights x $60 = $1620
Based upon a 25 man roster, the total costs per wrestler will be $360 if Huskerland pays the Teams entry fee; $400 if they dont. The break down is as follows:
Entry fee: $40; Clothing Package: $150; Transportation: $40; Lodging: $70; Meals & Incidentals $100 (all costs are estimates and were rounded up). Coach Garcia is diligently working to find sponsors to offset the cost of the trip. His success will determine the final costs for each wrestler, but for planning purposes, I would use the above referenced costs.
Weigh-Ins, skin checks and registration are from 7:00-9:00 PM, June 5. A coaches meeting will beheld at 9:00 to draw for pool placements. Freestyle competition will commence June 6 and conclude the morning of June 7. Greco competition will commence June 7 and will conclude on June 8. The team will depart Omaha at 4:00 AM on the morning of June 5, 2003 and will drive all day until they reach Yorktown, Indiana. Wrestlers will return to Nebraska after the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday, 6/8/03. I anticipate arrival back in Omaha, early Monday morning.
